Iga Swiatek, the No. 1 ranked women’s tennis player in the world, is the betting favorite to win Wimbledon 2023. In fact the top three in the WTA rankings are positioned at the top of the odds board for the third Grand Slam event of the season. Swiatek had little trouble winning the French Open losing just one set. That came against Karolina Muchova in the final. Though she’s ranked third in the WTA, Elena Rybakina hit the board as the second favorite with Aryna Sabalenka slotted as the third favorite. The odds suggest a three-person race since the fourth favorite Petra Kvitova is well off the pace.
The Ladies draw is typically wide open with six different winners over the last six tournaments. Rybakina slid in as the second favorite being the defending champion. She rallied to beat Ons Jabeur in three sets last year. A lot has changed on the Ladies side since Serena Williams won the second of her back-to-back titles in 2016. Of the past six winners only Rybakina is guaranteed to play when the tournament gets underway on July 3. Ash Barty, who won in 2021 suddenly retired and 2019 champ Simona Halep elected to take time off to recover from injury.
The 2023 Wimbledon Championship run from July 3-16 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. The oldest tennis tournament competed and the only major played on grass, Wimbledon is one of four Grand Slam events on the circuit. Visit BookMaker.eu for complete odds and to place your wager.

Swiatek is the favorite but it’s hard to make a case for her winning on grass. On other playing surfaces she’s been dominant winning on the clay at Roland Garros and hard courts at the U.S. Open last year. She also reached the semifinals at the Australian Open on another hard court. But when it comes to grass and Wimbledon there have been issues. She is just 5-3 at the All England Club losing in the first, third and fourth rounds. by comparison Swiatek is 28-2 on the clay at Roland Garros.
Her lack of success on grass has become a mental road block as well. Swiatek used the words “uncomfortable” and “challenge” when discussing the playing surface. That’s not reason enough to fade her since she’s been ranked No. 1 for over a year, but there aren’t a lot of grass surfaces that she can play to work out the issues.
Waiting in the wings are players who have already performed well on grass. That includes 2022 champ Rybakina and 2022 runner-up Jabeur. Rybakina is looking to make amends for her loss to Donna Vekic in the round of 16 at the French Open. And third favorite Sabalenka took out the top ranked player in three sets in the final of the Madrid Open in May. And she did so on clay by showing the power and precision to hang with Swiatek.
If experience matters Kvitova is worth taking a look at. The only player among the top 10 over the age of 30, Kvitova has also had success at Wimbledon with titles in 2011 and 2014. If she can hang with the youngsters she has plenty of value at +1000.
Wimbledon Picks
I’m always looking for value in my betting picks and there are times when it just isn’t there. Sure Kvitova has the experience and Wimbledon titles but the game has faded slightly. It seem as though the top three are always battling each other at major tournaments and the results have varied. Swiatek is the best all-around player but here troubles on grass are worrisome. And it might be time we get a back-to-back winner.
