Losing three games in a row and with a record of 3-5 heading into their Week 10 matchup with NFC East rival Philadelphia, making the postseason is becoming a near impossible task for the Dallas Cowboys. And the chore got more difficult with an injury to starting QB Dak Prescott, who is expected to miss several games. Cooper Rush becomes the team’s starter with former first-round pick Trey Lance backing him up. News of Dak’s injury that occurred late in last week’s loss to Atlanta, played tricks on the betting line at the Bitcoin Sportsbook with the spread rising a point to Eagles -7 and the total dropping a few points to 42.5.

Getting vital information can be a big help when betting on the NFL. I did have the Lions as a 3-point favorite in their matchup with Green Bay in last Sunday’s NFL same game parlay, but the weather played a role in keeping the score below the total. In a steady downpour Detroit won the game 24-14 and of course I backed the OVER at 48. I’ll look to get back in win column with another divisional matchup this week.
The Eagles enter on a nice run with four straight wins and payouts in two of the last three. It’s a streak that didn’t seem possible a month ago when they were chewed up 33-16 in a loss to Tampa Bay that had them at 2-2. They picked things up particularly on the defensive side allowing an average of less than 15 points during the streak while scoring at least 20 points in every outing.
The addition of Saquon Barkley has balanced the offense giving opposing defenses more to think about. Barkley is the NFL’s second leading rusher with 925 yards and averages almost six yards a carry. He also has six rushing touchdowns while going for more than 100 yards in each of the last three games. As a team the Eagles have the second-best ground game averaging 174.8 yards, which puts them in a good spot against a shaky Dallas unit. The Boys rank 30th against the run allowing 147.8 yards a game, while opponents have scored 13 rushing touchdowns.
Teams tend to play their best when things look the worst. That’s definitely a situation the Cowboys are in, desperately needing wins and having to do it with backup Cooper Rush for the next few weeks. All is not lost, though. Rush has proven to be more than capable in his limited action. He did start five games in 2022 when Prescott was injured going 4-1 in those games. His lone setback was against the Eagles when he tossed three interceptions. Rush has been with the club since 2017 and has appeared in 30 games. He was 13 of 25 for 115 yards and a TD in the Week 9 loss to the Falcons.
In past years the cowboys had a strong running game and defense to lean on. Unfortunately that hasn’t been the case in 2024, which is why they are where they are in the standings. Reuniting with Ezekiel Elliott hasn’t sparked the run game, which ranks next to last with an average of 82 yards. Their three rushing touchdowns, one of which was scored by Dak, are also tied for the fewest in the NFL. Asking Rush to win the game through the air could be an issue. And the Eagles are poised to pounce on a defense that’s better than only Carolina at preventing opponents from scoring.
The teams have split the last four meetings with each club winning twice at home. That’s when the Cowboys were better and had Prescott. With that not being the case on Sunday I’m backing the Eagles minus the points. And since Dallas has allowed an average of nearly 40 points in three home losses this season, the OVER is a smart play on my NFL same game parlay.
