Old School Meets New School
In all likelihood, the winner of the MEAC is going to have a relatively quick turnaround to get ready for a First Four game in Dayton on Tuesday or Wednesday night. That won't bother the Hampton Pirates or the South Carolina State Bulldogs though, as they just want to capture the MEAC title and put on their dancing shoes....
The Akron Zips are probably the only team in the MAC capable of pulling off an upset in the NCAA Tournament. However, in order to get there, they have to dispose of the Buffalo Bulls in the MAC Championship Game on Saturday night....
The Hawaii Warriors probably had their faint at-large NCAA Tournament hopes go away down the stretch of the season when they were beaten twice in their last four regular season games. They've played like a team on a mission here in Anaheim, crushing Cal State Fullerton and UC Santa Barbara en route to the Big West Final, and they'll hope to make short work of the Long Beach State 49ers as well to capture the league's automatic bid to the dance....
Rather amazingly, Tulane has cast aside a 12-21 record and five straight losses to turn it on in time for the AAC Championship Tournament. The Green Wave have seen offensive and defensive improvements against UCF and Houston. They’re now in position to advance to the finals with a strong showing on Saturday against Memphis....
What could the Connecticut Huskies possibly have left in the tank after playing four overtimes against Cincinnati on Friday? We're all going to find out on Saturday when they take on the Temple Owls at the Amway Center in Orlando....
The under-.500 Fighting Illini are playing their best basketball of the season and shooting for another upset as the 12th seed in the Big Ten Tournament. Illinois shocked Purdue in the only regular season meeting, and doing so again in Friday’s rematch would send it to the conference semifinals....
The stakes couldn’t be higher for Michigan, as it battles No. 1 seed Indiana Friday in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals. The Wolverines advanced with an overtime win over Northwestern on Thursday and they are still in the hunt, however a loss likely seals an NIT bid. The Hoosiers haven’t played since Sunday and should be well rested....
Oklahoma appears to have West Virginia’s number this season. The Sooners delivered WVU two of its seven losses and had little trouble breaking the vaunted pressure defense when the teams last met. And OU has this guy named Buddy Hield, who just dropped 39 in a quarterfinal win....
The top-seeded Jayhawks seek their eighth straight win over the fifth-seeded Bears, a streak that includes two victories this season and another in last season’s Big 12 semis. Baylor limped into the tournament with losses in three of four games, but looked like the best team in the conference with Thursday’s rout of Texas....
A look at the records shows just how closely-matched Texas and Baylor are. The teams split the regular season series with each winning on the road and were separated by just one game in the Big 12 standings. Both teams are likely in the NCAA Tournament, but bragging rights are on the line in this quarterfinal conference tournament matchup....
The top ranked Kansas Jayhawks enter the Big 12 Tournament on an 11-game winning streak and with a No. 1 seed in the NCAA’s all but locked up. The big question entering this week’s games will be motivation. K-State should be plenty motivated after dropping both regular season meetings by a combined 27 points....
America East might have the most fair way of determining its conference champion. Its tournament is spread out over a full week, and the better team gets to host the game. It's also an opportunity to see a home team storm the court after a victory to ensure a trip to the NCAA Tournament. That's what the fans of the Stony Brook Seawolves will be hoping to see on Saturday morning when they take on the Vermont Catamounts for a spot in the dance....
The conference tournament season is usually full of surprises, but there were none in either the quarterfinals or semifinals in the West Coast Conference. This brings us our third iteration of the St. Mary's Gaels taking on the Gonzaga Bulldogs. St. Mary's won both regular season matchups and in all likelihood has punched its ticket to the dance. Meanwhile, Gonzaga's status is up in the air and the Bulldogs would love to get a win to erase any doubt....
The two Summit League semifinals were both decided by a single point on Monday night, and that could set Tuesday night's duel between the North Dakota State Bison and the South Dakota State Jackrabbits up to be a classic....
If the St. Mary's Gaels don't end up making the NCAA Tournament, they can point at losses to teams like the Pepperdine Waves for that. The Waves are back on the docket once again in the semifinals of the WCC Tournament, and they'll have a legitimate shot to knock out the Gaels and perhaps make the WCC a one-bid league to the dance....
The Gonzaga Bulldogs are currently on the outside looking in at the NCAA Tournament according to Joe Lunardi with the Zags needing a win against the BYU Cougars in the West Coast Conference semifinals on Monday to at least have a shot at qualifying....
Mid-major teams have been all the rave this year, as teams like the Monmouth Hawks have built unlikely resumes which could get them into the NCAA Tournament without their conference automatic bids. Part of what makes Monmouth's case so strong this year is because the MAAC has been top heavy. A loss to the Iona Gaels wouldn't be damaging to anyone's resume....
It's been a relatively down year in the SoCon this year, but that doesn't mean its representative to the NCAA Tournament is going to be any less dangerous. The Chattanooga Mocs have been the favorites all year long to claim the Southern's lone bid to the dance, but they're going to have a tough time taking out the East Tennessee State Buccaneers in the league finale on Monday....
The Northern Iowa Panthers aren't going to apologize to the rest of the teams sitting firmly on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament. On Saturday, they were responsible for stealing a bid to the dance, as Wichita State won't end up with the Missouri Valley automatic slot after losing to the Panthers. Now, UNI is going to try to get a bid of its own to March Madness on Sunday in the MVC Final against the Evansville Purple Aces. You can bet on college basketball odds at BookMaker.eu every day of the season....
The UNC Asheville Bulldogs ended up getting a fairly easy route to the Big South Tournament Final. Sure, they had to get past top-seeded High Point, but the Panthers were playing without their best player. A bid will be punched to the dance come Sunday afternoon at the Pope Convocation Center, and it will either be UNC Asheville or the Winthrop Eagles strapping on their dancing shoes. You can bet on college basketball odds at BookMaker.eu every day of the season....
If the Austin Peay Governors end up making the NCAA Tournament, they'll certainly have earned their spot even though they went just 14-17 in the regular season. They're playing their fourth game in four days at the OVC Tournament in Nashville, and they're stuck playing against the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks, the hottest team in the Ohio Valley, and a team which has played just once thus far in the tourney....
This will be the last game of the season for the No. 24 SMU Mustangs after the overbearing NCAA levied a postseason suspension for academic malfeasance. Larry Brown and the Mustangs will look to make it count when they head on the road to take on the Cincinnati Bearcats, currently a No. 10 seed in the NCAA Tournament according to bracketologist Joe Lunardi....
In his first season coach Avery Johnson has pulled Arkansas out of the long shadow of the school’s football team, making basketball relevant for the first time ever. Even losses in three of the Tide’s last four games can’t diminish what the former NBA great has done....
There is plenty on the line when Arizona hosts Stanford in the final regular season game for both sides. The Wildcats can wrap up a first-round bye in the Pac-12 tournament while the Cardinal could be playing to keep the job of their head coach. And it doesn’t look good for Johnny Dawkins....
The Arizona Wildcats have fallen upon some tough times in recent weeks, and as a result, they are out of the discussion for the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Pac-12 Tournament. Still, they won't want to fall flat once again in the regular season finale against the Stanford Cardinal, or there will be a chance they could drop out of the top four seeds next week as well....
