The Alabama Crimson Tide are solid favorites to win the 2018 NCAA Football National Championship, but Alabama is not the only team getting good action on the odds board. The Clemson Tigers are a close second choice in the betting and Ohio State and Georgia are also listed at single-digit odds. Eight teams are listed at odds of less than +2000. Let’s look at the odds to win the title this season, some top contenders and a few other things to watch.

Top Contenders
It is hard to argue with the top two of Alabama and Clemson, as they have combined to win the last three national titles. Alabama plays in the tougher SEC conference, but if they can navigate a difficult schedule, they might be better prepared than a team like Clemson who plays in the ACC. Ohio State and Georgia are also getting some attention, but both teams have significant hurdles, as the Big Ten and SEC are difficult conferences. Four other teams are listed with odds of +2000 or less, but it would take a lot for Michigan, Oklahoma, Penn State or Washington to win the national title. The Wolverines are getting a lot of love from bettors, as they are the fifth choice in the betting, despite having disappointed every season under Jim Harbaugh.
Marquee Longshots
If you want to take a couple of marquee teams that could make some noise at big prices this season then look at Texas and Notre Dame. The Longhorns are listed at odds of +3019 to win the national title in 2018. This will be their second season under Tom Herman and they should be improved. Keep in mind that Texas lost three games to Top 15 teams last season by a combined 11 points. If they can beat Oklahoma it is not out of the question that Texas could move into playoff consideration.
Another team to watch at attractive odds is Notre Dame at +5000. Don’t laugh, as Notre Dame has a quarterback in Brandon Wimbush that could turn them into a title contender. Wimbush had a great spring and he could take Notre Dame to big heights this season. Notre Dame will have their chance to make a mark on the voters, as they open up with Michigan. The Fighting Irish won 10 games last season and this year’s team looks even better.
Week 1 Elimination Game
You can make a strong case that the loser of the game between Auburn and Washington in Week 1 will be out of national title contention. Auburn still has to play at Georgia and Alabama, so they need the win, while the Huskies play in what is considered a weak Pac-12, so they can’t afford to lose. Auburn is listed as a 3-point favorite at Bookmaker.eu.
Harbaugh Hot Seat
The Michigan Wolverines are getting a lot of love from bettors heading into the 2018 season, but if the team flops, the seat will get even hotter for head coach Jim Harbaugh. He was supposed to turn the Wolverines into national title contenders, but he can’t even beat his top two rivals, Michigan State and Ohio State. For some reason bettors really like the Wolverines this season, as they are getting a lot of attention in college football futures.
Alabama-Clemson IV
Will we get an Alabama-Clemson matchup for the fourth time? There is a good chance it could happen in 2018. Whether we get it in the semifinals of the College Football Playoffs or the National Championship game is the question, as both teams look solid to make the College Football Playoffs again this season.
