A Case for the Over: As potent the Seminoles' offense proved to be, it was the defense that ultimately stirred the collective drink. Granted, the ACC was noticeably down, with Clemson, Miami, and Virginia Tech all failing to live up to expectations. This year’s front line loses Jared Verse and Braden Fiske to the NFL, but Patrick Payton—fresh off a 7-sack, 14.5-tackle-for-loss campaign—returns, along with newcomer Marvin Jones Jr., who transferred from Athens to Tallahassee via the portal. The linebacker corps loses its two top tacklers but will adopt a next-man-up mentality, with the program flush with talent. The secondary will enter the season as the strength of the defense, with CB Fentrell Cypress looking to build upon a 40-tackle, 8-pass-breakup season, while S Shyheim Brown contributed 53 tackles himself to build his NFL resume. Then there’s the heaping load of new faces that college football bettors will become familiar with throughout the 12-game regular season schedule. Bottom line, FSU was rock solid defensively a season ago, but might be even better in 2024!

A Case for the Under: A heaping load of talent will no longer be lining up for the Noles’ offense when they take to the gridiron this season, especially in the wide receiver corps, where Keon Coleman, Johnny Wilson, and Jaheim Bell are now all playing on Sundays. However, the success or failure of the offense will ultimately come down to the portal acquisition of D.J. Uiagalelei, who will line up under center in what feels like his tenth year of eligibility. All kidding aside, it’s only been four seasons for the Riverside, CA native, whose time at the collegiate level can only be considered rocky at best. Failing to live up to expectations at Clemson, the field general enters 2024 off arguably his best campaign after running the show in Corvallis for the Oregon State Beavers. CFB bettors already saw what the Seminole offense looked like without a competent field general at the tail end of last season. It’ll likely be more of the same if the veteran fails to gel with the cast laid before him in his third stop. The success, or lack thereof, of the 2024-25 Florida State Seminoles will ultimately come down to No. 5 and how he deals with the pressure of once again leading a team worthy of being under the national championship spotlight.
