The Army Black Knights were terrific a season ago, winning 11 of their 13 games to finish with a top-20 national ranking. There is a lot of talent returning in 2019 and the expectations remain high as the season approaches. The current college football odds are forecasting another double-digit win win season for the Black Knights if the projected over/under win total is any indication. Army has a dominant ground attack and as long as the defense steps up, it is shaping up to be another successful season for the Black Knights.

Army Win Total Odds Analysis
The win total is high, and even so, the “over” has been getting the majority of the action early on, which has pushed the vig up to -124, with the “under” the slight underdog. Army is a quality team and also has a schedule that is stacked with a winnable matchups.
The Black Knights begin the season with a home opener against Rice, but they are walking into a near-certain loss in Week 2 on the road against Michigan. The schedule lightens up from there with matchups against UTSA, Morgan State, Tulane, Western Kentucky, Georgia State, San Jose State, Air Force, UMass, VMI and Hawaii. The regular season finale will come against the Navy Midshipmen, and it will be interesting to see if the wager can be won or lost in that game.
Army has 13 regular season games, so an 11-2 season is the way to hit the “over.” A 10-win campaign indeed seems the most likely, and the “under” would mean a 9-4 campaign or worse in 2019.
Army Odds
The Black Knights return quarterback Kelvin Hopkins after he became the first player in school history to exceed both 1,000 yards rushing and receiving in 2018. Army’s bread and butter is running the ball with its option attack, but Hopkins’ ability to throw it when needed is a big help. He is back to lead the way and a major reason why Army is projected to have another fine season.
The Black Knights only allowed 17.7 points per game a year ago. Some of that is based on the style of play, as the team likes to churn the clock and limit possessions. Army certainly had some talent on that side of the ball, though, and has a strong secondary heading into 2019. The Black Knights can get in trouble when teams pull ahead and force them into an unpreferred style of play, so it will be important for the defense to remain stout again this year.
Key Stats or Trends
Coach Jeff Monken has orchestrated an impressive turnaround of Army since getting hired prior to the 2014 season. The Black Knights won four games in his first year and then only two in 2015, but things improved rapidly from there. Army won eight games in 2016, 10 in 2017 and peaked with the 11 victories last year. The Black Knights would love to keep it rolling this year, and Monken is back to lead the way with a lot of talented returners.
The nice thing for the Black Knights is that the program is not big enough to lose a lot of talent to the NFL, so most players stay all four seasons. Army can’t afford many missteps in order to surpass 10 wins in 2019 and it could come down to the wire.
