Will the Clemson Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide meet in the National Championship game again this season? Clemson and Alabama have met in the title game in three of the last four seasons and they begin the 2019 season ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the polls. Clemson features quarterback Trevor Lawrence, while Alabama has Tua Tagovailoa. Let’s look at the odds on this title game prop at BookMaker and some things to consider.
Will Clemson and Alabama Meet in National Championship Game
Yes +210
No -270
If you think that Clemson and Alabama are going to meet yet again in the title game then you can get +210 on the Yes. There is no question that the Tigers and the Tide begin the 2019 season as the two best teams, but injuries happen and football can be unpredictable. Let’s look at both Clemson and Alabama and also consider teams that could beat them.
Clemson Tigers
The Tigers rolled over Notre Dame and Alabama last season in the College Football Playoff, winning by a combined score of 74-19. The Tigers have quarterback Trevor Lawrence who begins the season as a slight favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. Lawrence is joined in the backfied by Travis Etienne who rushed for 1,658 yards and 24 touchdowns. Lawrence has plenty of receiving options led by Tee Higgins and Justyn Ross. The defense for Clemson does have some question marks, but Clemson is now a national power under Dabo Swinney and they just reload. If you think Clemson is going to have problems this season you may want to look at their schedule. It is EASY. Their toughest game is probably the one against Texas A&M and that game is at home.
Alabama Crimson Tide
The Crimson Tide have the motivation of losing the national title and we know that Alabama does really well under Nick Saban playing with a chip on their shoulder. In the last 10 seasons, the Tide have won four national titles and failed to win the title six times. The Tide followed up six of those failures by winning the national title the next season four times. Alabama features one of the top quarterbacks in the country in Tua Tagovailoa and he is a close second choice in Heisman odds behind Lawrence.
The Tide have a stellar group of receivers led by Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs and they have Najee Harris in the backfield. The Alabama defense is always good and the schedule for the Tide is favorable. Alabama gets LSU at home and the Tide gets a bye week before their three toughest games of the season against A&M, LSU and Auburn.
The Field
If you are going to lay the price and take the No on this prop then some other team has to beat either Clemson or Alabama. The Georgia Bulldogs have the quarterback in Jake Fromm and a good enough offensive line to move the ball against either Clemson or Alabama. Oklahoma has a high-powered offense led by Alabama transfer Jalen Hurts and the Sooners should not be counted out. Ohio State and Michigan will be contenders in the Big Ten and LSU has one of their most talented teams in the past few years.
College Football Pick
Do you really want to lay nearly 3-1 and bet against a rematch between Clemson and Alabama? It is hard to make a strong case for going against the rematch considering that there is no question that the Tigers and Tide begin the season as the two best teams. If you look at the college football futures you will see Clemson and Alabama listed at about 2-1 to win the national title and then a big drop to Georgia who is listed at 8-1. Taking the +210 on Clemson vs. Alabama doesn’t offer a ton of value, especially since it is a long season, so the best option on this prop is probably to pass.
