College Football Odds – Week 2 Major Line Moves

Week 2 Major Line Moves

With the first full week of college football action out of the way, we can get a better idea of where teams stand and how good – or bad – they might be. That helps to set the line for the upcoming games, but the betting public influences were the numbers go.

The second week of the season gives us a chance to better track line moves since the spreads just hit the board on Sunday or Monday. Tracking line moves for Week 1 games was a little different since most of the games had odds up for months. Several Week 2 matchups have seen spikes in the spread with backers looking to recoup losses or feeling good about a nice first week haul. We’ll take a look at some of the more significant line moves for this week’s games and you can wager on every college football game at Bookmaker.eu.

Week 2 Major Line Moves
TCU at SMU
Opening Line: TCU -17.5
Current Line: TCU -21.5

The betting week kicks off with an all Texas tilt that’s seeing the Horned Frogs get hammered by the betting public. The line opened at TCU -17.5 and jumped four points with nearly 86 percent of the early money on TCU. The No. 16 Frogs took care of business in their opener, shellacking FCS Southern University 55-7. The Sonny Dykes era in Dallas got off to a rocky start with the Ponies falling to North Texas, 46-23, as a 3.5-point favorite. SMU gave up 539 total yards and the game’s first 36 points. With a matchup against Ohio State looming in Week 3, this could be a letdown spot for the Frogs, and if the line climbs higher, SMU could be worth the gamble.

UCLA at Oklahoma
Opening Line: Oklahoma -25
Current Line: Oklahoma -30

Chip Kelly had a rough go in his return to college football as his UCLA Bruins looked very un-Kelly like in losing to Cincinnati. The Bruins managed just 306 yards and, to make matters worse, they could be without last week’s starting quarterback after Wilton Speight went down with an injury. And that doesn’t bode well in trying to outscore the Sooners. OU put on a dominant performance in taking down Florida Atlantic last week and looked very much like a championship contender, which is why the line jumped five points. And the Sooners are still getting plenty of action. The Bruins haven’t been spotted this many points since 2011 when they played Kelly’s Oregon team in Eugene and covered the 31-point line.

New Mexico State at Utah State
Opening Line: Utah State -21
Current Line: Utah State -24

There’s only one sure thing when it comes to gambling, and that’s betting on the Aggies to win this game. All joking aside, Utah State’s Aggies looked really good last week and nearly pulled off the biggest upset of the early season before falling on the road to Michigan State, 38-31, as a 23.5-point dog. USU has added incentive as well after they were beaten by New Mexico State’s Aggies in last season’s Arizona Bowl, a win that ended a 57-year bowl drought for NMSU. A bowl isn’t close to being attained this season with NMSU looking like it could be one of the worst teams in college football.

Baylor at UT San Antonio
Opening Line: Baylor -9.5
Current Line: Baylor -15

This is another game with significant line movement. The Bears opened at -9.5, but with the Roadrunners getting little support at the betting window, the spread spiked to -15 and could go higher with 90 percent of the early action backing the visitors. UTSA looked awful in losing to an average Arizona State team last week, totaling just two rushing yards and getting outgained 503-220. Meanwhile, it looks like Baylor is digging itself out of the hole from past scandals and Matt Ruhle matched his win total from last season. Let’s not get too high on the Bears just yet, though. They did allow 466 yards and 27 points to FCS Abilene Christian
