College Football Odds – Week 3 Major Line Moves

College Football Odds

Week 3 of the college football season is always an interesting time with most clubs playing one last non-conference matchup before league play gets underway. And we also start to see things settle down after a frantic opening few weeks. There are some big games in store for us and the SEC tips off with a battle between No. 7 Auburn and No. 12 LSU.

Top-ranked Alabama also opens its league slate against Ole Miss. The Tide opened as an 18-point favorite and the line was quickly wagered to -21.5. We also saw a spike in the total for that matchup, going from 63 to 71. There were also lines that jumped the fence in a few games with both Arkansas State and Houston going from 1.5-point underdogs to 1-point favorites. Where is the early money going in Week 3? Let’s take a look at some more games with significant line moves. And remember, you can wager on every college football game at Bookmaker.eu.

Week 3 Major Line Moves

Ohio State vs. TCU

Opening Line: Ohio State -10

Current Line: Ohio State -13.5

Technically this game is at a neutral location. Realistically it’s in TCU’s backyard. That hasn’t been enough to sway the betting public, though, which is hammering the Buckeyes with 70 percent of the early action, forcing a spike in the line from OSU -10 to -13.5. Ohio State has looked every bit like a championship contender in whacking Oregon State and Rutgers. TCU has been equally impressive in downing its two patsies, Southern and SMU, by a combined score of 97-19. It’s a little surprising we’ve seen this much movement in the line considering the game will be played in TCU’s backyard and it’s the last game for OSU’s acting head coach Ryan Day.

Georgia State at Memphis

Opening Line: Memphis -21.5

Current Line: Memphis -27

The line really spiked for this game with Memphis opening at -21.5 and being wagered to -27. Both teams lost for the first time last week, but Georgia State looked much worse doing it. The Panthers barely squeaked by Kennesaw State, 24-20, in their opener, scoring 10 fourth quarter points to avoid and embarrassing loss. That also inspired nearly 70 percent of the betting public to back Memphis. The Tigers committed four turnovers and are looking to rebound from a loss to Navy. A steady rain also prevented Memphis from unleashing its high-powered attack. That should change Friday night against a Georgia State team that allowed NC State to do whatever it wanted last week.

Troy at Nebraska

Opening Line: Nebraska -7.5

Current Line: Nebraska -11.5

Nebraska had its first game wiped out by the weather so this is only their second contest, and bettors are backing a bounceback effort from Scott Frost’s team. The Huskers showed promise offensively behind freshman Adrian Martinez and probably would have beaten Colorado if not for an injury that forced the quarterback out of the game. Martinez’s injury was a major reason why the line opened at Nebraska -7.5 and news that he wasn’t seriously hurt and could possibly start this week forced a spike in the line to -11.5. This is a development to play close attention to if you plan on backing either side.

San Jose State at Oregon

Opening Line: Oregon -38

Current Line: Oregon -41.5

The spread for this game has gone up 3.5-points and should continue to rise. San Jose State is nowhere close to containing Oregon’s potent attack. After all, the Spartans allowed over 500 yards in a loss to FCS UC Davis in its opener. The defense played better last week, but San Jose State couldn’t score in a 31-0 loss to another Pac-12 team Washington State. The jail break offense that was popularized under Chip Kelly is back in full force in Eugene and the big plays will keep coming against a team that allows a bunch of them. The Ducks are averaging 60 points in their first two games against inferior opponents, and San Jose State fits right in that category. Nearly 90 percent of the early money is backing the home team, so don’t be surprised to see more movement on this line.
