College Football Odds – Week 4 Major Line Moves

College Football Odds

The lines are shaking on some of the bigger college football games in Week 4. It’s not often that we see a four-touchdown spread in a game featuring two ranked teams, but when it’s No. 1 Alabama at home, well, anything is possible. The only other top-25 matchup on this week’s slate saw the line already jump the fence. No. 7 Stanford opened as a 2-point road dog against No. 20 Oregon, but early wagers backing the visitors had that swing the other way and the Cardinal are now favored by two points.

Auburn is getting plenty of support as it looks to bounce back from a disheartening loss last week. A huge spike in the line saw the Tigers go from -24 to minus -30 for their SEC West tilt with Arkansas. Several games have had seismic shifts and others have moved off the key number of three. Where is the money going in Week 4? Let’s take a look at some games with significant line moves. And remember, you can wager on every college football game at Bookmaker.eu.

Week 4 Major Line Moves
Tulane at Ohio State
Opening Line: Ohio State -34
Current Line: Ohio State -37

On paper this game appears to be as one-sided as the spread. Ohio State is one of the best in the country and is coming off a win over a talented TCU squad. Tulane’s only win this season came over FCS Nicholls State. So it’s not a complete surprise that the Buckeyes are getting over 80 percent of the early action. OSU also gets head coach Urban Meyer back on the sideline after his three-game banishment ended. The Buckeyes have a key Big Ten East matchup at Penn State next week and there is always a chance for a letdown against a lesser opponent. A three-point jump in the line doesn’t seem like much in this game, but with OSU likely to sit its regulars after getting a lead, there’s always a chance for a backdoor cover.

Texas AM at Alabama
Opening Line: Alabama -23.5
Current Line: Alabama -27

It looks like the only thing that can knock off Alabama is Alabama. The Tide looks every bit like the No. 1 team in the country after destroying their first three opponents by a combined score of 170-28, but the Aggies will be their stiffest competition yet. It could be déjà vu all over again for Bama. After the Tide crushed Ole Miss last season, they struggled against the Aggies and escaped with a 27-19 victory. The difference this season is that the Tide is home and they have Tua Tagovailoa. Jimbo Fisher was paid a lot of money to win games like this one and he has a talented quarterback in Kellen Mond, who has Johnny Football skills. And remember a few years back when the Aggies and Manziel pulled off the upset in Tuscaloosa. The betting public pounded Bama at -23.5 forcing the line to spike to 27 where the wagers have leveled off.

Arkansas at Auburn
Opening Line: Auburn -24
Current Line: Auburn -30

This is another SEC West confrontation that has seen significant line movement. It’s hard to say if 90 percent of the early money is backing Auburn or fading Arkansas. Either way, it forced a huge move from the opening of Auburn -24 to the current -30. The Tigers are coming off a tough loss to LSU, but Arkansas has been a dumpster fire under first-year coach Chad Morris. The come-from-ahead loss to Colorado State was bad, but getting embarrassed and posterized on a fake punt return by North Texas was horrible.

Stanford at Oregon
Opening Line: Oregon -2
Current Line: Stanford -2

The Ducks opened as a 2-point favorite but saw the line jump the fence with early money backing Stanford. And a quick glimpse at the competition tells us why. Oregon looked good in winning its first three games, but knocking off Bowling Green, Portland State and San Jose State is far less impressive than wins over San Diego State, USC and UC Davis. This is a crucial matchup in the Pac-12 North with the teams combining for six of the seven division titles, so there is added incentive. And the Ducks have a nice home field advantage at Autzen, so don’t be surprised to see this line continue to move right up to kickoff.
