Odds Analysis
Clemson opened up as a 4-point favorite and the early money came in on Georgia. The line has dropped to three and that could be where it stays. There has also been some action on the total, as the number opened at 53.5 and it has been bet down to 51.5.
Georgia Bulldogs
The Bulldogs know that they are in for a big challenge trying to move the ball against the Clemson defense. "They're definitely a great defensive team," sophomore running back Kendall Milton said to the media, "They have a lot of weapons and a lot of players we're looking out for, but practicing against our defense, the d-line, the linebacker corps, it's a best-in-the-country type of defense. So I feel like we are, as a running back room, as a running back group, it's preparing us very good because going against the d-line we go against every day already prepares you for the game-type atmosphere."
Georgia will be starting two new players on their offensive line, so they could have trouble protecting quarterback JT Daniels. It will be up to offensive coordinator Todd Monken to find ways to give Daniels time to throw.
Clemson Tigers
The Tigers will have a new quarterback this season in DJ Uiagalelei. He has started just twice in his career, but already looks like a potential first-round NFL Draft pick. The Tigers return some solid talent on the offensive line, but they face a Georgia defensive line that is led by Jordan Davis, Devonte Wyatt and Jalen Carter.
The Tigers have Justyn Ross back to lead a deep group of receivers, but it could be that the running back position is by committee. The question for Clemson is whether or not the offensive line can hold up against good defenses. Normally a team gets a cupcake game to prepare, but that is not the case for the Tigers this year, as they get a very good team in the opener.
Georgia vs. Clemson Prediction
I think this game comes down to which teams wins up front. Both teams have questions on their offensive line and I think this game will come down to big plays and turnovers. What we do know is that Clemson wins big games, while Georgia normally struggles. I am not going against Dabo Swinney in a big game, so I lean to Clemson. I think the total could be worth playing, as I am not sold on either of these offenses right now. Perhaps both offensive lines will come together in time, but right now I have to give both defensive lines the edge. I will go under the total in this one.
Bookmaker Pick: Under 51.5.
