The Memphis Tigers lost some significant pieces from a year ago, from both their roster and their coaching staff. However, enough talent returns that coach Mike Norvell’s squad could push for a third straight American Athletic Conference West Division title and another berth in the conference’s championship game. The current college football odds have a high number of wins projected for the Tigers as they have a schedule that looks quite manageable in 2019.

Memphis Win Total Odds Analysis
Memphis is not a Power 5 school, which gives it a chance to really rack up the wins against inferior foes. The Tigers have a tough start to the season right out of the gate, though, as they face off against Ole Miss. They then play against Southern and South Alabama before getting into AAC action.
The conference slate kicks off against Navy, followed by matchups with Louisiana-Monroe, Temple and Tulane. Tulsa and SMU are next, with the scheduling gauntlet coming at the end of the season when Memphis has to face Houston, South Florida and Cincinnati back-to-back-to-back. The way the Tigers perform in those end-of-season matchups will decide if they are able to surpass the projected win total in 2019.
Memphis Odds
Memphis has to replace stud running back Darrell Henderson, who left defenders in his wake regularly throughout last year and gave the Tigers a great bail-out option offensively. He is now in the NFL, and Memphis will turn to Patrick Taylor, Jr. to pick up the slack at running back. Even though the running game is a bit of a question mark, it won’t matter that much because Memphis’ passing game should once again be strong. Quarterback Brady White returns after a successful 2018 campaign and has some nice options at receiver. Damonte Coxie is expected to surpass 1,000 receiving yards once again this year, while tight end Joey Magnifico is also a threat in the passing game.
The defense returns three starters on the defensive line and is also welcoming in junior college pass-rusher Everitt Cunningham, so this should be the strength of the group. Bryce Huff had 9.5 sacks a season ago and is aiming for double digits this year. Austin Hall leads the linebacker corps, while the secondary returns starting cornerback T.J. Carter and starting safety Tyrez Lindsay. John Broussard, a transfer from Auburn, could be the other starter at cornerback.
Key Stats or Trends
Memphis won eight games in the regular season a year ago, before dropping two straight to end the year. The Tigers lost all three of their coordinators this offseason, so there could be some bumps in the road early on as those things get ironed out. However, head coach Norvell is still pulling the strings and he has proven to be a fantastic coaching hire at Memphis. White was impressive a year ago, and the return of that duo should have everyone at the school optimistic.
Memphis won 10 games two years ago and in order to hit the projected win total, it will need to get there in just the regular season. It won’t be easy but the Tigers believe they have enough talent to make a run at the double digit total in 2019.
