The Notre Dame Fighting Irish made a big statement in 2018, finishing the regular season undefeated and making it to the College Football Playoff. They didn’t win the title but nonetheless it was an impressive showing from a group intent on returning to the upper echelon of college football. Notre Dame would love to remain in that championship conversation once again in 2019 and does have some key pieces back, but the current college football odds are projecting a step back for the Fighting Irish.

Notre Dame Win Total Odds Analysis
Notre Dame has finished with double-digit victories in three of the past four years and could be on the precipice of pulling that off once again this year. The Fighting Irish has a projected win total set at nine games, with the “over” the current betting favorite. Notre Dame plays an independent schedule and seems to have a manageable load in 2019.
The Fighting Irish will begin the season with a matchup against Louisville, followed by their home opener against New México. One of the toughest games of the season will be in Week 3 when Notre Dame hits the road for a matchup against Georgia. Notre Dame will likely be the underdog in that one. The Fighting Irish follows that up with games against Virginia, Bowling Green and USC, and then hits the road for their rivalry game against a strong Michigan squad.
The season wraps up with matchups against Virginia Tech, Navy, Boston College and Stanford. If Notre Dame can manage to knock off either Georgia or Michigan, it will be in great shape to hit the “over” on this wager. However, losses in both of those gives them very little margin for error in the other 10 contests.
Notre Dame Odds
Notre Dame averaged 31.4 points per game last season and really took off once quarterback Ian Book was inserted into the starting lineup. He is set to return, as will four offensive linemen and a strong receiving corps. There is great optimism surrounding the offense, and deservedly so. If the passing game is as good as advertised, Notre Dame may be able to keep itself in the College Football Playoff discussion all season long. Jafar Armstrong is expected to get the majority of the carries in the backfield.
The Notre Dame defense had a lot of stars last season but most of them have departed, including standout defensive lineman Jerry Tillery and cornerback Julian Love. While the group is poised to have some inexperience, Notre Dame always recruits well and will have talent waiting in the wings. Julian Okwara, Khalid Kareem and Daelin Hayes are all capable pass-rushers, and if they can make opposing quarterbacks uncomfortable, it will help out the entire group. The Fighting Irish has a pair of good safeties but cornerback could be an issue unless a couple players step up. That is something to watch closely as the year begins.
Key Stats or Trends
Notre Dame wasn’t quite on the level of Alabama or Clemson a season ago, but it still put together a fantastic season. Book is back to lead the way on offense and expectations remain high, but there are several games on the schedule which won’t be easy to win. The Fighting Irish could officially return to elite status with another strong season in 2019, and Notre Dame can secure that by hitting double-digit regular season victories once again.
