The Ohio State Buckeyes will enter the 2019 season with one of the most talented rosters in college football, like usual. However, a pair of changes at two key spots have allowed for the current college football odds to decline just a tad compared to normal. The Buckeyes must weather the losses of coach Urban Meyer and star quarterback Dwayne Haskins off of last year’s team. Ohio State is relying on new coach Ryan Day to make sure there isn’t a huge dropoff, while Justin Field will aim to replace Haskins effectively. It will be an interesting season for Ohio State as it deals with these changes.

Ohio State Buckeyes Win Total Odds Analysis
The Buckeyes still have an extremely high projected win total, as they would need to win 11 games in order to hit the “over.” It is not a surprise to see the “under” as the favorite considering the question marks heading into the year.
Ohio State begins the season against Florida Atlantic, followed by matchups with Cincinnati, Indiana and Miami of Ohio. The Buckeyes then face a tough stretch against Nebraska on the road, home against Michigan State, at Northwestern and home versus Wisconsin. The Buckeyes wrap up the regular season slate with games against Rutgers, Penn State and Michigan. The final game is on the road against the Wolverines, and it will be interesting if the Buckeyes are sitting on nine or ten wins heading into that matchup with the win total wager hanging in the balance.
Ohio State Odds
Haskins was an elite pocket passer and he ended up going No. 15 overall in the first round of the NFL draft to the Washington Redskins. Fields is a former five-star recruit who went to Georgia out of high school but is now aiming to have a big career with Ohio State. He will be flanked by talent, as the Buckeyes return 1,000-yard rusher J.K. Dobbins at running back and K.J. Hill at receiver. The offensive line loses three starters, including both tackles, so there is work to be done there.
The defense must replace star pass-rusher Nick Bosa, who was the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, but he missed most of the 2018 season due to injury so it won’t be a big change. Chase Young highlights the list of defensive linemen who return after registering 9.5 sacks a season ago. Linebacker may be the thinnest group on defense, although that is somewhat mitigated by all of the talent in the secondary, which could be one of the best in the country.
Key Stats or Trends
Ohio State has won at least 11 games in every season since 2014, and is coming off a 13-1 campaign and a Rose Bowl victory. The Buckeyes lost some serious talent to the NFL but that happens every season and the program bounces back. The difference this year is the retirement of Meyer, who proved to be one of the best coaches in college football.
Day did a nice job when Meyer was suspended in 2018, and that audition likely clinched his ascension to the permanent spot in 2019. If Day and Fields fit in seamlessly, the Buckeyes should be in College Football Playoff contention again, but there are more question marks at Ohio State than in past seasons because of the changes.
