The Orange needs to pick up eight wins this year in order to hit the “over” on the projected regular season win total. Syracuse will open the season with a pair of games on the road against Liberty and Maryland. Then comes a titanic home matchup against Clemson. If the Orange is undefeated for that one, it will be one of the most-hyped games in the team’s history.
Syracuse will follow that up with matchups against Western Michigan and Holy Cross before returning to ACC play against North Carolina State and Pittsburgh. A big matchup against Florida State awaits in late October, and the Orange will follow that up with contests against Boston College, Duke, Louisville and Wake Forest to wrap up the regular season slate.

Syracuse has some talent returning but the big question is at quarterback, where standout Eric Dungey has moved on to the NFL. He will be replaced by Tommy DeVito, who is more of a traditional pocket passer and will aim to get the passing game rolling.
DeVito should have some help as the team has a pair of talented running backs in Moe Neal and Abdul Adams. Sean Riley and Nykeim Johnson will be the most reliable wide receivers, but the big question is whether or not the offensive line will be able to hold up to give DeVito enough time to find his targets.
The Syracuse defense made some nice progress a season ago and is aiming for more of the same in 2019. The Orange will be led by edge rushers Alton Robinson and Kendall Coleman, who each racked up 10 sacks a year ago. The secondary should be strong, led by safety Andre Cisco, who had seven interceptions a season ago. The linebacker corps is the biggest weakness and must be shored up, but there is a good deal of talent within the defense overall.

Wins have been hard to come by for Syracuse historically, but the program took a huge step forward in 2018. The internal expectations are high heading into the year, and if the Orange can get strong quarterback play, it has a chance to finish second in the conference behind Clemson. However, the past struggles cannot be ignored, as Syracuse still has much to prove in 2019.
