There’s nothing like rivalry week in college football and the Iron Bowl matchup between the Auburn Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide is one of the best. The series has been one-sided recently with the Tide winning the last four meetings, but the Tigers covered twice in the last three games when catching double figures on the betting line and they are an 11.5-point dog at your Bitcoin sportsbook.

This is a fierce rivalry game so I expect both teams to be pumped and excited. However, it’s difficult to predict Alabama’s mindset after last week’s debacle. Favored by 13.5-points, the Tide rolled over in a shocking 24-3 loss to a not-very-good Oklahoma squad. With two losses entering that game they couldn’t afford another setback and likely blew a chance at reaching the college football playoff.
Jalen Milroe has been the catalyst for an offense that ranks 18th nationally in scoring and averages nearly 420 yards per game. However, he appeared bothered by some sort of ailment in the OU game and briefly exited the contest. That could explain why he was just 11 of 26 passing for 164 yards with three interceptions. He also totaled just 11 rushing yards and as a team Bama had just 70 yards on 30 rush attempts.
I think we can say that Alabama falls short of the elite status among college football teams and is a good team. All three losses have come in the last seven contests with two setbacks when the Tide was favored by more than 13 points. The loss to the Sooners was stunning, but not as much as their 40-35 defeat at Vanderbilt last month. Bama was a 23-point favorite in that game. And the Tide barely got by South Carolina, 27-25, at home when laying three touchdowns.
Several recent games in the series have been close, but those were Auburn home games. Bama has been devastating at home winning the last three matchups by a combined score of 143-61 while covering a closing line of at least 21-points in all three. However, this is a different Tide squad with the presence of former coach Nick Saban no longer a factor.
This is a good chance for Auburn to end its losing streak to the Tide and to make up for last year’s epic disaster. Who can forget Alabama’s game-winning touchdown on fourth-and-goal from the Auburn 31? As much as Tigers fans want to erase that memory, they can’t. And neither can the players and coaches. Payton Thorne wasn’t very good in last year’s game completing just 5 of 16 for 91 yards with two interceptions. He is coming off two of his best games of the year giving hope that Auburn’s passing game can be a factor. Thorne threw for 301 yards and two TDs in last week’s win over the Aggies and had five scoring passes to beat UL-Monroe the week before.
Their record doesn’t reflect it, but the Tigers have been decent offensively all season. They average more than 430 total yards and 29 points scoring more than 40 points in each of their last two games. And they’ve been effective against the run giving up less than three yards per carry. This is an important game for Hugh Freeze and his squad giving the Tigers added incentive, and I think they stay within the spread.
