Week 10 College Football National Championship Odds Update

Week 10 College Football National Championship Odds

Week ten starts with no real changes in the top choices by gamblers for the college football national championship. In fact top contenders such as the Alabama Crimson Tide, Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, and LSU Tigers were off last week. Meanwhile the Clemson Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, and Oklahoma Sooners all coasted to impressive wins and payouts. The West Virginia Mountaineers rebounded off a loss with an annihilation of the Baylor Bears. But the Florida Gators and Texas Longhorns have dropped in the eyes of players and oddsmakers following losses last week. Perhaps the most impressive teams last week were Georgia and Oklahoma, who both won in impressive fashion. Let’s take a look at the national championship board this week.

College Football National Championship Odds at BookMaker.eu: Alabama 4/7, Clemson 3/1, Notre Dame 6/1, Georgia 7/1, Michigan 10/1, Ohio State 10/1, LSU 20/1, Oklahoma 20/1, West Virginia 33/1

Alabama Crimson Tide

Last week’s bye week doesn’t change the fact that the Crimson Tide is the prohibitive favorite to win the national championship. Alabama’s defense has been very good, though not perfect, but much of that can be attributed to emptying the bench in blowouts. But it is the offense led by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa that has reached a level never before seen in the coach Nick Saban era. Tua has a 238.8 quarterback rating with an insane 25/0 touchdown to interception ratio and 13.59 yards per catch. As long has he stays healthy the Tide looks unbeatable.

Clemson Tigers

Clemson annihilated the Florida State Seminoles 59-10 as 18-point road favorites. Coach Dabo Swinney’s team has emerged as the team that is considered the most capable of competing with Alabama. True freshman Quarterback Trevor Lawrence is proving to be a difference maker with a 164.2 quarterback rating with 16 touchdown passes and two interceptions. The Tigers are very well balanced and rank sixth in the nation for scoring offense and first for scoring defense.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Notre Dame flexed their muscles last week in a 44-22 win over Navy in a neutral site game that was played in San Diego. There are still concerns about the metrics of the Fighting Irish who rank 36th in the country for total offense and 32nd for total defense. Head coach Brian Kelly’s team has been transformed since naming Ian Book as the starting quarterback. Book has a 170.2 quarterback rating with 13 touchdown passes and four interceptions.

Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia lost cache with gamblers following their 36-16 loss at LSU but did much to regain the confidence of the public with a 36-17 payout over an improved Florida team last week. UGA boasts the nation’s 12th ranked scoring defense and quarterback Jake Fromm is considered an extra coach on the field.

Michigan Wolverines

The Maize and Blue boast the nation’s top ranked defense and will need it in a potentially dangerous home game against the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday.

LSU Tigers

LSU will have the ultimate credibility test on Saturday night when they host Alabama. If they pull off the upset they will emerge as a top tier favorite. But if they get hammered they’ll drop off the board.

Oklahoma Sooners

This is the team to start watching. Since the firing of defensive coordinator Mike Stoops the Sooners have shown vast improvement on that side of the line. Last week the Sooners destroyed the Kansas State Wildcats in a 51-14 payout as 25-point chalks. New defensive coordinator Ruffin McNeil is making a difference. But the ultimate impact is coming from quarterback Kyler Murray. Murray is likely the second Heisman Trophy candidate after Tagovailoa with a 227.3 quarterback rating with 28 touchdown passes and just three interceptions. He is averaging 12.73 yards per pass attempt. Murray is averaging 6.7 yards per carry with six TD’s just for good measure.

College Football National Championship Odds Analysis

It may not be a bad time to get in on surging Oklahoma, who is showing rapid improvement and ability and will continue to grow in esteem with gamblers down the stretch.
