Week Four of college football kicks off with an interesting matchup of up and down teams. The Temple Owls were winless until their stunning upset of Maryland last week at College Park. The Tulsa Golden Hurricane nearly upset the Longhorns at Texas but were less than impressive in a loss last week to Arkansas State. Both teams have shown ability for both big seasons and bad ones in the past few years. All of which makes this American Athletic Conference matchup a challenging handicap.
This contest in Week 4 will go down Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. ET at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The game can be seen on ESPN.

Odds Analysis
Temple is likely to get some betting love based on their big win last week at Maryland. Indeed, the Terrapins were one of the hottest teams on the board before the Owls took them apart. Tulsa got some respect for their close call at Texas but last week did much to surrender that good will with gamblers.
Owls Soar at Maryland
Temple limped into Maryland as a 15-point dog that had lost its first two games of the season to 1AA Villanova and lightly regarded Buffalo. Maryland obviously mistook the Owls for a creampuff as Temple jumped all over the Terps for a 28-7 lead en route to a 35-14 win and cover. The win was no fluke as Temple outgained the Terrapins 429-195 and held a 21-11 first down advantage. Temple held a 36:33 time of possession advantage.
Hurricane not so Golden
Tulsa was upset by Arkansas State 20-29 as two-point home favorites. The Golden Hurricane took a quick 7-0 lead in the first quarter but it may have caused a false sense of security. By early in the third quarter Tulsa was down 27-7 and it was too late to recover. Arkansas State outgained the Golden Hurricane 415-339.
Recent Form
Tulsa is 1-2 both straight up and against the spread with two of their three games going under the total. The Golden Hurricane ranks 91st in the nation for total offense and 94th for scoring offense. Defensively Tulsa ranks 72nd overall and 87th for points allowed.
Temple is 1-2 both straight up and against the spread with two of their three games going under the total. Offensively the Owls rank 110th nationally overall and 89th for scoring. On defense Temple ranks 50th overall and 60th for points allowed.
Key Trends
Tulsa has been a decent wagering value in road games with just three losses against the line in their last 11 matchups. The Golden Hurricane has gone under the total in their last four away tilts.
Conversely Temple has been a weak betting value as a home team lately with just two payouts in their last eight home games. The Owls have gone over the total in their last three home games.
Head to Head
The away team has covered the only previous two meetings between these teams. Both games went over the total. Last year Temple won and covered at Tulsa 43-22 as 4.5-point road chalks. This also sets up the revenge angle for the Golden Hurricane.
Coaching Angle
After Bill Blankenship ran the Tulsa program into the ground Philip Montgomery was welcomed with open arms. But after back to back bowl seasons and a 10-3 mark in 2016 the Golden Hurricane stumbled back to 2-10 last year.
Geoff Collins had to replace Matt Rhule, the most successful head coach in modern Temple history. While he went 7-6 and won the Gasparilla Bowl last year Collins still faces a lot of doubts.
Free ATS Pick
Any doubts about this game can be erased by all of the trends pointing to the road team Tulsa. Ironically, Temple’s win last week may serve to hurt their betting value.
