Week seven certainly reshuffled the deck as far as the national championship prospects of several teams. Beyond that there is a different perception as far as top contenders and who could possibly unseat the Alabama Crimson Tide for the national championship. While Alabama remains the prohibitive favorite, the top alternatives are changing in the minds of many gamblers. While the Georgia Bulldogs, Washington Huskies and West Virginia Mountaineers have dropped in public esteem the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Texas Longhorns and Michigan Wolverines have seen their stock rise. Let’s take a look at the top favorites to win the national championship.

College Football National Championship Odds Analysis
Alabama
The Alabama Crimson Tide have done nothing to change anyone’s mind as far as being the far and away top tier favorite to win the national championship. Beyond that the Tide have somehow been able to hold decent betting value after their 39-10 home payout over Mizzou put them at 4-3 against the spread for the year. The one concern about Alabama is that they are yet to be tested and how will they respond when they finally are.
Clemson
The Tigers are coming off a bye week but things seem to have stabilized for them after their near-death experience against Syracuse. True freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence gives them a much more dynamic offense and the nation’s fourth ranked defense is not to be taken lightly.
Ohio State
The Buckeyes are coming off a lethargic 30-14 home win over Minnesota in which they failed to cover as 30.5-point chalks. Despite a record of 7-0 the Bucks have failed to cover the spread in four of their last five. The nation’s 58th ranked defense is worrisome to gamblers.
Georgia
The Bulldogs were curb stomped at LSU last week 36-16 and it was no accident. It was also overdue. Georgia is not as deep last year and also has the look of a team that has been reading their own press clippings. Despite a record of 6-1 they have covered the spread just three times. A sluggish offense ranked 69th nationally for passing yards has now sparked a potential quarterback controversy between Jake Fromm and Justin Fields.
Notre Dame
The Fighting Irish survived a big scare in last week’s 19-14 comeback win over Pitt as 21-point home overlays. Of concern are national rankings of 49th in the country for total offense and 34th for total defense. Freshman sensation quarterback Ian Book had his first rough game against Pitt with two interceptions.
Texas
Texas remains a pretender in the eyes of many sharps due to an offense that ranks 61st in the country for scoring. The Longhorns 23-17 home win over Baylor as 14-point chalks last week did not inspire a massive betting wave on their futures prospects.
Washington
The Huskies national championship prospects ended in a 30-27 overtime loss at Oregon last Saturday. Beyond that their week one loss to a bad Auburn team looks atrocious now. Finally, overrated quarterback Jake Browning has never returned to his 2016 level.
Michigan
Nobody earned more respect and praise than the Wolverines after their 38-13 annihilation of Wisconsin as 10-point home chalks last week. Michigan boasts the country’s second ranked defense that completely suffocated the Badgers and their touted offensive line. And the much-maligned offense has climbed to rank 23rd in the country for scoring.
West Virginia
The Mountaineers are undefeated no more after their 30-14 loss at Iowa State that clearly exposed them as the pretenders that they always were. The Mounties lack the depth to make a serious national championship run and the nation’s 48th ranked defense doesn’t exactly help either.
