Old School Meets New School
Two weeks ago this matchup didn’t appear as though it would have implications in the AFC South. Boy, how things have changed. The Indianapolis Colts bounced back from a disastrous effort in London and the gap has closed on the first place Houston Texans, who continue to struggle with their million dollar quarterback looking anything but and defensive standout J.J. Watt done for the year. The good news for the Texans is that they return home for this Week 5 game where they haven’t lost this season. This matchup in Week 6 of the regular season will take place on Sunday, October 16, 2016, at 5:30 p.m. ET at NRG Stadium....
The bumbling of the San Diego Chargers has gotten so ridiculous, you now expect them to implode in the fourth quarter and find new ways to lose football games. It happened again Sunday, though the mistakes actually started in the third quarter, and they handed the Raiders a victory. The turnovers and botched snaps on field goal attempts are no fault of Mike McCoy, but the coach is about to pay the price with his job. San Diego will attempt to break a 10-game losing streak to AFC West competition when it hosts the Denver Broncos in Week 6.Watch this regular season Week 6 matchup live on Thursday, October 13, 2016, at 5:25 p.m. ET at Qualcomm Stadium....
What do you get when you pair an overrated head coach with a team that lacks talent? The answer is the San Francisco 49ers. Chip Kelly’s up-tempo style works when he has a quarterback to run the show, unfortunately for him, Blaine Gabbert isn’t that guy. So as we head into Week 6 of the NFL season, the Niners are contemplating a change at the spot, but even that is unlikely to change the fortunes of the team when it battles the Buffalo Bills. This contest in Week 6 of the regular season will go down Sunday, October 16, at 1 p.m. ET at New Era Field....
The Vikings are undefeated. The Eagles went three games and three quarters without turning the ball over. The Falcons have already scored almost as many points as the 49ers did all of last season. And the Raiders are leading the AFC West. What a world we live in! The NFL has been absolutely bizarre through five weeks of play, and as a result, we've got some unpredictably awfully good matchups to digest in Week 6 of the season....
After a promising start to the season, the New York Giants are flailing as bad as Odell Beckham Jr. right now. Their two-game road trip through the top of the NFC North lands in Wisconsin for a Week 5 matchup with the Green Bay Packers, where Ben McAdoo will have a bit of a homecoming. McAdoo was an assistant coach with the Packers for eight seasons and knows just how difficult it is for opposing teams to win at Lambeau Field. He’ll get his first crack as a head coach trying to take down his former boss. This contest in Week 5 of the regular season will go down Sunday, October 9, 2016, at 8:30 p.m. ET at Lambeau Field....
With Andrew Luck recovered from his injury problems that limited his participation last season, the Indianapolis Colts were expected to be a contender in the AFC South. After losing to Jacksonville last week in London, Indy is tied with the Jags at the bottom of the division. It’s still early and Luck is still upright, so there is time for the Colts to make a move. However, it better come quickly and it starts with a Week 5 home contest against the Chicago Bears. This contest in Week 5 of the regular season will go down Sunday, October 9, 2016, at 1 p.m. ET at Lucas Oil Stadium....
The Carolina Panthers are making it hard on themselves to repeat as NFC Champions. As if the start to the season wasn’t bad enough, they suffered another blow when reigning MVP Cam Newton took a shot to the head and sustained a possible concussion; that coming in a game when the Carolina defense was scorched for a record-setting performance by the Falcons’ pass-catch duo. The Panthers can start their road to recovery on Monday night when they host the last-place Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a Week 5 NFC South matchup.Watch this regular season Week 5 matchup live on Monday, October 10, 2016, at 8:30 p.m. ET at Bank of America Stadium....
The bye week couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Philadelphia Eagles. Rolling to a 3-0 start and fresh off a beatdown of AFC favorite Pittsburgh, the Eagles certainly would have liked to continue playing. However, the schedule said take a week off and so they did. Now, as they get back to work, the Eagles won’t be sneaking up on anyone and they will be taken seriously the rest of the way. The first obstacle is the Detroit Lions as the teams prepare for a Week 5 matchup.Kickoff for this regular season Week 5 game is set for Sunday, October 9, 2016, at 1 p.m. ET at Ford Field....
The San Diego Chargers continue to give games away and their generosity could eventually cost Mike McCoy his job. The coach was livid after his team turned the ball over twice in the fourth quarter on Sunday, leading to a pair of New Orleans touchdowns and once again San Diego snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Having lost nine straight games to AFC West opponents, the Chargers try to end that streak against the last division foe they beat when they visit the Oakland Raiders in a Week 5 tilt. This matchup in Week 5 of the regular season will take place on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at 4:25 p.m. ET at the Oakland Coliseum....
Can we finally put this whole Deflategate fiasco behind us? It looks like it as Tom Brady is set to make his return from a four-game suspension and start on Sunday when the New England Patriots visit the Cleveland Browns. Brady’s backups did a nice job in his absence, taking the Pats to a 3-1 record, which is probably better than most anticipated. New England would have been happy splitting those four games and now they’re playing with house money heading into their Week 5 contest.Watch this regular season Week 5 matchup live on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at 1 p.m. ET at FirstEnergy Stadium....
After losing their starting quarterback to a freak injury in the preseason and watching their Hall of Fame running back crumble to the turf with a knee injury in the second game, most teams would have cashed it in. Not the Minnesota Vikings. Riding a fierce defense, the Vikes are one of two 4-0 teams in the NFL and they appear to be following the blueprint put together by last season’s Super Bowl champions. Minnesota looks to keep its record unblemished when it hosts the Houston Texans in Week 5.Kickoff for this regular season Week 5 game is set for Sunday, October 9, 2016, at 1 p.m. ET at U.S. Bank Stadium....
For the second time in just over a month the Tennessee Titans will pay a visit to South Florida, only this time the game has a lot more meaning. The Titans were here for the final preseason game when both teams were still optimistic about the upcoming season. Five weeks later the Titans and Miami Dolphins are searching for answers in an attempt to salvage their seasons. Tennessee won that meaningless exhibition game, now we’ll see which team has progressed further in Week 5.Kickoff for this regular season Week 5 game is set for Sunday, October 9, 2016, at 1 p.m. ET at Hard Rock Stadium....
There’s only about 40 miles that separate Baltimore from D.C. yet the Baltimore Ravens and Washington Redskins haven’t met in a regular season game since 2012. Fans in the Beltway region will get a special treat when the neighboring rivals collide for just the second time in Maryland’s largest city in Week 5, but the game could be held under the threatening skies of Hurricane Matthew, which is supposed to make an appearance over the weekend. This contest in Week 5 of the regular season will go down Sunday, October 9, 2016, at 1 p.m. ET at MT Bank Stadium....
In an important stretch of their schedule, the New York Jets would probably rather not face the Pittsburgh Steelers at this point. Ryan Fitzpatrick is in a fragile state after throwing nine interceptions in his last two games and the Jets are in need of a victory before their playoff hopes get dashed quickly. Can Fitz respond the way the Steelers did to their first loss of the year? Pittsburgh steamrolled the Chiefs on Sunday night and are back to looking like the Super Bowl contender many predicted. They’ll try to keep the offense rolling against the Jets in Week 5.Watch this regular season Week 5 matchup live on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at 1 p.m. ET at Heinz Field....
It’s not often that a team faces the Super Bowl combatants from the previous season in back-to-back weeks the following year. But that’s what’s ahead for the Atlanta Falcons after they took apart Cam Newton and the defending NFC champion Panthers on Sunday to take a two-game lead in the NFC South. Now, Atlanta gets a trip to the Mile High City and a date with the defending league champion Denver Broncos in a Week 5 matchup. This matchup in Week 5 of the regular season will take place on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at 4:05 p.m. ET at Sports Authority Field....
What we’ve seen so far from the San Francisco 49ers is pretty much what we expected. They let an early lead slip away against a beat up Dallas team and lost for the third straight time. However, things have fallen apart for the Arizona Cardinals and it could be much worse for the defending division champs depending on the health of Carson Palmer. The consensus preseason favorite to win the NFC West and represent the conference in Super Bowl LI has stumbled mightily out of the gate, but the Cards can get well quickly with a win over the Niners in Week 5.This contest in Week 5 of the regular season will go down Thursday, October 6, 2016, at 5:25 p.m. ET at Levi’s Stadium....
Just two weeks ago Rex Ryan looked like a fool and many had him pegged as the first coach to lose his job. Fast forward to the present and Ryan is looking like a genius who has transformed the Buffalo Bills back into the thick of the race in the AFC. Jeff Fisher was also high up on that coach’s list after a dreadful showing by his Los Angeles Rams in the opener, but L.A. has reeled off three straight victories and knocked off the top two projected teams in the NFC West. Riding winning streaks, the two collide in a Week 5 matchup.Kickoff for this regular season Week 5 game is set for Sunday, October 9, 2016, at 4:25 p.m. ET at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum....
We haven't even technically finished with Week 4 of the season yet, but Week 5 is already shaping up to be a wild one in the NFL. There are four teams that have no idea who their starting quarterback will be yet, while one team in particular is going to be glad to have its quarterback returning to the fold after a, shall we say "deflating" experience in Week 4....
For the first time in two years the Dallas Cowboys have won three consecutive games, and they’re doing it with rookie Dak Prescott running the show. This is definitely a different Dallas team. Last year without starter Tony Romo, the Boys couldn’t do anything right and went 1-11 behind a trio of backups. Maybe Prescott isn’t the backup when Romo is ready to return, but he’s certainly doing the job as the starter now. Dallas will have a stiff challenge to keep its streak alive in Week 5 when it hosts the Cincinnati Bengals. This matchup in Week 5 of the regular season will take place on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at 4:25 p.m. ET at ATT Stadium....
A NFC South game involving a first place team isn’t all that unusual for the Carolina Panthers. When they aren’t the team at the top of the division, well that’s something different altogether. Through three weeks of the 2016 season, the Panthers have already eclipsed their entire regular season loss total from a season ago, and they must face the first-place Atlanta Falcons on the road in Week 4. Atlanta stopped the Panthers two wins shy of completing the second 16-0 regular season in league history with last year’s home win.Watch this regular season Week 4 matchup live on Sunday, October 2, 2016, at 1 p.m. ET at the Georgia Dome....
The more things change, the more they stay the same. The New Orleans Saints did a major overhaul to the NFL’s worst defense from 2015 and yet they still give up yards and points at an alarming rate. The San Diego Chargers were decimated by injuries last season and for the third week in a row they lost another key member of their team when Manti Te’o was felled with a season-ender. Drew Brees returns to San Diego when the clubs square off in Week 4.Kickoff for this regular season Week 4 game is set for Sunday, October 2, 2016, at 4:25 p.m. ET at Qualcomm Stadium....
The Denver Broncos won the Super Bowl last season with a magnificent defense and average quarterback play. They still have a magnificent defense and they may have found an upgrade in the quarterback area with the emergence of Trevor Siemian, who looked unflappable in his first road start leading Denver to a big win over AFC contender Cincinnati. It’s still early and Siemian has a long way to go before being mentioned with Peyton Manning. He gets another shot against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4.This contest in Week 4 of the regular season will go down Sunday, October 2, 2016, at 4:05 p.m. ET at Raymond James Stadium....
The Pittsburgh Steelers can hold off on making their reservations for Super Bowl LI after getting thoroughly dominated by the Eagles on Sunday. Pittsburgh was, and should still be, a trendy pick to represent the AFC in Houston come February, but the journey might not be as easy as they once thought. The Kansas City Chiefs are part of the upper crust in the AFC and could make things a bit more interesting in the early part of the season by clinching a road victory in Week 4.Watch this regular season Week 4 matchup live on Sunday, October 2, 2016, at 8:30 p.m. ET at Heinz Field....
After making the reigning NFL MVP look below average in win over the defending NFC champions, it might be time to include the Minnesota Vikings defense among the best in the league. The Vikings are one of five unbeaten teams through three weeks and they managed to do it without their starting quarterback and all-world running back. So you know it’s not the offense that’s keeping the team propped up. Minnesota looks to go 4-0 for the first time since advancing to the NFC Championship in 2009 when it hosts the New York Giants in Week 4.Kickoff for this regular season Week 4 game is set for Monday, October 3, 2016, at 8:30 p.m. ET at U.S. Bank Stadium....
Maybe the Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback job won’t be waiting for Tony Romo when he’s ready to return. The emergence of fourth-round draft pick Dak Prescott has given the Boys a dual-threat option at the position and has rejuvenated the team that even the suspect defense is getting into the act. Fans of the San Francisco 49ers can only dream about what might be as they continue to watch Blaine Gabbert stumble under center. We’ll see who gets the better of the head-to-head matchup in Week 4.This matchup in Week 4 of the regular season will take place on Sunday, October 2, 2016, at 4:25 p.m. ET at Levi’s Stadium....
