The Belgian Knockout on the European Tour will have a bit of a different feel, as the first 36 holes are normal strokeplay, while the final two days are match play. The cut will be made after Friday’s play and the top 64 players will advance to the weekend. There will be two groups of 32 and players will go head-to-head in stroke play matches over nine holes. There will be three rounds of stroke play matches on Saturday to get down to the final eight players. The quarterfinals, semifinals and final will be played on Sunday. We are coming off a tough week with last week’s picks at the Rocco Forte Sicilian Open. Let’s look at the odds and picks for this week’s Belgian Knockout.

Belgian Knockout Matchup Picks
Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. This tournament will be played at Rinkven International Golf Club and not many people are familiar with the course, as it has undergone a lot of changes through the years. What we do know is that for these matchups the match play format won’t come into play, as they are 36-hole matchups. The only goal for players will be to finish in the top 64, so don’t expect a lot of separation at the top of the leaderboard.
Joost Luiten -125 vs. Thomas Pieters
Luiten is playing better of late than Pieters and he will get his share of crowd support. Pieters will be one of the local favorites, but Luiten is from nearby Netherlands and should feel comfortable on this course. He is 11th in Total Accuracy on the European Tour over the last three months. I will lay the short price and take Luiten.
Andrea Pavan -105 vs. Aaron Rai
One of my top picks to win this week in the odds preview was Pavan, and I like him in this matchup. Pavan has been very consistent this season with a tie for 21st or better in seven of his last eight events. Rai does have four top 20 finishes in his last six starts, but I think Pavan is the better choice.
Thomas Detry -140 vs. Scott Vincent
I think Detry could do well this week, as he will have a ton of crowd support and he won’t have nearly as much pressure on him as Pieters. Detry played really well in Belgium two years ago in the Challenge Tour’s KPMG Trophy, as he tied for 6th.
Chris Wood -110 vs. Ryan Fox
Wood should do well on this course, as he won the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. He hasn’t played nearly as well this year, but he did finish second in Oman. I will lay the small price and take him in this matchup.
Romain Wattel -115 vs. Richie Ramsay
Wattel played really well in the GolfSixes and he has made five of his last six cuts including a tie for 11th at the Maybank. Ramsay simply can’t make any putts, as he is 166th on the European Tour in Shots Gained: Putting. I will take Wattel in this matchup.
