BMW International Open Matchup Picks

Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. Forget about looking at last year’s results, as this tournament rotates courses, so this year it is at Golf Club Gut Larchenhof near Cologne. Birdies can be had on this course, as Henrik Stenson shot -17 two years ago on this course. The two par 5’s on the back nine are relatively short, so big hitters could have a chance at eagle.

Tommy Fleetwood -234 vs. Sergio Garcia

I know the price on Fleetwood is high, but how can you not like him in this matchup? He was great at the U.S. Open, he is having a much better season than Garcia and Sergio simply hasn’t played well recently. Sergio does have a good record in this event, but I can’t take him based on how he his playing right now, as he has five missed cuts and a tie for 70th in his last six events. I will lay the price and take Fleetwood.

Seungsu Han +112 vs. Adrian Otaegui

I get why Otaegui is favored in this matchup, as he won the Belgian Knockout and finished second in China, but Han is playing well with a fourth in Oman and a top five in the Corales Puntacana event in the Dominican Republic. The deciding factor for me is that Otaegui has missed the cut three times on this course. I will take Han at plus money.

Thomas Detry -126 vs. Chris Paisley

Detry finished second in this event last year and he played well in Germany in the Paul Lawrie Match Play event earlier this season. He has made nine of his last 11 cuts. Paisley looked good early in the year but he has three straight missed cuts. I will take Detry here.

Soren Kjeldsen -176 vs. Julien Guerrier

Kjeldsen has two top 25 finishes in this last four starts and he has had some success on this course in the past. Guerrier hasn’t done anything of note lately and doesn’t figure to challenge in this event. I will take Kjeldsen in this matchup.

Oliver Fisher -112 vs. Bradley Dredge

Fisher tied for 10th at the Belgian Knockout and he played well at the Italian Open. He has made three of four cuts on this course including a tie for 12th four years ago. I will take Fisher in this matchup.
