It’s not the strongest field assembled for a European Tour event, but that should only add to the excitement as the D+D Real Czech Masters returns to the rotation after being scrubbed last year due to COVID. Still relatively new on the calendar this is only the seventh time the tournament has been played. In 2019 Thomas Pieters became the first multiple winner, but we will have a new champion since Pieters isn’t included in the field. Sam Horsfield opened as the betting favorite and is one of four players with shorter than 20/1 odds. The next level on the odds list is fully stocked with the outright up for grabs. The favorites are included in a number of matchups with most against each other to make things interesting. Visit BookMaker.eu for an updated odds list when you’re ready to make a wager.

Need to Know
Albatross Golf Resort in the capital city of Prague is the only host this tournament knows. Debuting in 2014, the 7,467-yard parkland layout got a remodel prior to the 2018 edition with the introduction of several water hazards. Big hitters should do well with the length and forgiving fairways so expect them to tee it high and let it fly. The par-5s are reachable with a nice charge and we’ve seen winning scores reach -20. Pieters finished 19-under two years ago and Andrea Pavan was 20-under in 2018. Four of the six winners made this their maiden Tour victory and the field is loaded with up-and-comers looking for their first win.
D+D Real Czech Masters Matchup Picks
Tapio Pulkkanen -115 vs. Niall Kearney
A lot of things are trending positively for Pulkkanen which is why I’m backing him in this matchup. He can hit the ball as far as anyone off the tee, he has enjoyed some success on this layout and he enters riding decent form. He made the cut in both his starts averaging 68 in the first two rounds combined. He stumbled later but showed he can master the course. A few years older the game has evolved with the Finn recording four top-25s in his last eight starts.
Sam Horsfield -125 vs. Danny Willett
Horsfield stands out in the field and I searched for the best value. After a rough stretch at The Open and Scottish Open, Horsfield snapped back into form with a T6 in the Cazoo Open, his fifth top-10 in 12 starts this season. He also had a nice run here in 2019 carding a 16-under to claim a share of third. There’s a reason why he’s the outright betting favorite, but I’ll back him to win this matchup.
Toby Tree -115 vs. Josh Geary
A new-comer of sorts, Tree is getting his feet wet on Tour and appears to be getting stronger with every tournament. He played the weekend in four straight events after an erratic couple of months, and he posted his best finish of the season with a T16 last month in the Hero Open using an impressive driving display. I wouldn’t have picked Tree in this section if not for his success in Prague. He has four top-20s in his last five visits on the Challenge Tour and this field closely resembles a CT gathering.
Callum Shinkwin -117 vs. George Coetzee
I backed Shinkwin in the outright market so I better take him in a matchup. The big-hitting Englishman is trending in the right direction after going four months without a finish inside the top-50. He ended that skid with a solo fourth in the Cazoo Open and earned his first podium finish of the season with a T3 at last week’s Cazoo Classic. He scored 70 or lower in each of his last eight rounds giving him a boost of confidence on a track he’s familiar with.
Rory Sabbatini -101 vs. Dean Burmester
With the excitement of winning an Olympic silver medal behind him, Sabbatini continued the run with a top-10 in the Wyndham to get back to work. Those results came out of nowhere since he hadn’t recorded a top-10 since January at the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open. Something sparked him and I’m counting on whatever it was to continue for the experienced veteran.
