The KLM Open begins on Thursday in the Netherlands with Lee Westwood listed as the favorite. None of the top players on the European Tour are in the field, so this event looks wide open. Westwood is the favorite at odds of more than +1500. I am coming off a 2-3 week with the matchups in last week’s Omega European Masters. Let’s look at the odds and matchups for this week’s KLM Open.

KLM Open Matchup Matchup Picks
Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. Driving accuracy is a big key this week, as is greens in regulation. The Dutch is a par 71 that measures just 6,983 yards. It is a course that has excellent greens, so it is all about hitting fairways and staying out of trouble. Water is in play on more than half of the holes, so trouble is lurking around nearly every corner. Scrambling statistics are also important to consider when picking winners this week.
Kiradech Aphibarnrat -115 vs. Andy Sullivan
Kiradech led this tournament after 54 holes last year and I think he will be in the mix again this week. He isn’t in the best of form, but I think this course suits his game and he will play well.Sullivan missed the cut in this event last year, but he did finish third in 2014. I will take Aphibarnrat in this matchup.
Andrea Pavan -115 vs. Ross Fisher
Pavan is 7th on the European Tour in GIR this season. He won the Czech Masters three weeks ago. He did miss the cut last week in Switzerland, but he should bounce back this week. Fisher hasn’t played well for most of this season and I don’t see him turning it around this week.
Ashun Wu -110 vs. Nicolas Colsaerts
This is a really good matchup for Wu, as he tied for 6th in Switzerland last week. He started really well in this event a year ago with a 67-68 and finished in a tie for 31st. I can’t see Colsaerts doing well on this course, as his strength is distance; not accuracy. I really like Wu in this matchup.
Hideto Tanihara -110 vs. Martin Kaymer
The fade of Martin Kaymer continues this week and we get an underrated player in Tanihara. He should excel on a course like this that rewards accuracy. I don’t know what has happened to Kaymer, but he is nowhere near the player he once was and is pretty much a go-against in every event right now.
Sam Horsfield -105 vs. Romain Wattel
This is a play against Wattel. He is the defending champion, but he hasn’t done anything since winning this event a year ago. I just can’t see him contending this week, so I will lay the small price and take Horsfield.
