European Tour Betting – Odds to Win ISPS Handa Vic Open

Now in its second year as a European Tour co-sanctioned event, the ISPS Handa Vic Open has actually been around since 1957 when it was known as the Victorian Open. History lesson aside, the Tour meets in Victoria, Australia, this week with men’s and women’s pros joined in a unique format that has both tournaments running concurrently on the Beach and Creek Courses of the 13th Beach Golf Links. Both fields will play each course over the first two days with a cut after 36 holes. The field moves to the Beach for the weekend where another cut will take place following round three. Brad Kennedy leads the field as the betting favorite at online sportsbooks and eight former winners peg it up in a watered-down field. Odds Analysis

Wade Ormsby +1600

There are a lot of unknowns entering this week so you can put names on a wall and throw a dart to pick a winner. If it lands on Ormsby you’ve got a good chance. He’s obviously not a fan of desert golf after MCs in Saudi Arabia and Dubai, but this setup is more to his liking. Leader after 54 holes last year, Ormsby finished a shot back for a T2. He’s enjoyed recent success winning the Hong Kong Open last month which followed a T3 at his home Australian Open.

Lucas Herbert +1400

Long odds for the favorites suggest a wide open field and Herbert is one of the best of the bunch. He was a casualty of the 54-hole cut last year with a 76 on Saturday when the elements played with his game. That also began a slump for the Aussie that he recently emerged from with a win at the Dubai Desert Classic for his maiden ET triumph. He followed that with a T27 in Saudi Arabia last week and enters on a nice run of form knowing what to expect this time around.

Ryan Fox +1800

I know it’s not the same, but the play of Fox in blustery conditions is something to consider. A Saturday victim here last year when the elements proved too big a distraction, Fox had a solid showing in stronger fields at the Irish Open and Scottish Open. He hung around in the desert with a T27 at the Saudi International and T30 in Dubai, and he just hasn’t been able to craft four strong rounds. He’s more than capable, though, and stands out in a soft field.

Sam Horsfield +2500

Horsfield ended last season with 11 straight made cuts and a best finish of T3 at the Czech Masters. He started 2020 on the right foot earning a T12 in Abu Dhabi before failing to play the weekend in this last two starts. The desert swing isn’t for everyone and I’ll take the results as a sign that Horsfield isn’t a fan. He reached the semifinals of the World Super 6 Perth in his lone start in Australia and hopes to carry that over in his Vic debut. A weak field opens the door and Horsfield can ride through it.

Jason Scrivener +1600

We have players looking to regain form or youngsters attempting to make their mark taking part this week. And that leaves slim pickens as far as predicting a winner. Someone is going to emerge victorious and the odds say it could be anyone. Scrivener likes this event with a top-5 last year and a T11 in his previous start here in 2015. He finished last season strong and played through the weekend in the Arabian Peninsula, though he finished in the 50s both times.

Courses: Beach and Creek Courses, 13th Beach Golf Links

The host Beach Course stretches to 6,807 yards at par-72 and it’s the shorter of the two layouts. Like its name states, the track is located on the beach and is regularly inundated with the coastal winds that can disrupt a golf game. The Creek Course is a bit longer at 6,940 yards, but still short by Tour standards. It’s situated more inland and doesn’t get the gusts as often. It’s only played once, but the track gives players a chance to make up swings. The length of the courses suggests they are open to low scores. David Law won last year’s edition at 18-under.
