Players on the European Tour catch a break this week with little travel for the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. Following the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, the Tour heads roughly 90 miles north to the Emirates Golf Club, which will host some of the top names on the Tour for the 30th playing of the tournament.
With five PGA Tour victories in the past 18 months, World No. 5 Bryson DeChambeau opened as the betting favorite at BookMaker.eu with odds of +715. After his victory last week in Abu Dhabi, Shane Lowry ( +3750 ) will look to continue his strong run in the desert, but he’ll face strong opposition from defending champion Haotong Li ( +3250 ) as well as past Major champions Louis Oosthuizen ( +1225 ), Sergio Garcia ( +1350 ) and Henrik Stenson ( +1675 ).

Odds Analysis
Rafa Cabrera Bello +1675
The Spaniard loves Dubai and he has performed well on this track over his career. Cabrera Bello earned his second Euro Tour victory here in 2012 and he hasn’t finished outside the top-11 since 2015. He grabbed a second-place finish in 2016 and a top-6 just 12 months ago, which included a third-round 64. He’s scored below par in 28 of 32 career rounds at the Emirates GC and he’s coming off a top-11 at last week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
Joost Luiten +3350
Another player very familiar with the desert layout, Luiten could be a steal this week. His Saturday 65 at Abu Dhabi last week helped him to solo third, just three swings off the lead. He scored two final-round eagles and had just five bogeys the entire tournament for his fourth top-10 in the UAE in the last five years. It appears as though Luiten has overcome injury issues that plagued him near the end of last year. “The swing feels comfortable and I’m hitting some great iron shots, and I just need to keep doing that.”
Alexander Bjork +6000
If Bjork can put together four solid rounds he’d be a steal at this price. But that’s been a big if for the Swede. He opened last week at Abu Dhabi with a 66, began with a 65 in Dubai last year and scored a 67 in the DP World Tour Championship in 2017. In seven opening rounds in the UAE, Bjork has shot worse than 69 only twice. Bjork claimed his first Tour victory at the Volvo China Open last April and went on to claim six more top-20s in the 2018 season, including a runner-up finish at the British Masters and a share of eighth at the HNA Open de France.
Louis Oosthuizen +1225
He’s listed as the second favorite and comes into this event riding some serious form. In three Euro Tour starts this season, Oosthuizen has yet to finish outside the top-seven. He got his ninth Tour win at the South African Open in December, following that up with a T7 at the Alfred Dunhill Championship and solo fourth in Abu Dhabi last week. However, his best finish here was 11 years ago when he took third.
Course: Emirates Golf Club – 7,328-yards, par-72
The Majlis Course at the Emirates Golf Club has long been considered one of the finest in the Middle East, running the gamut of the area’s terrain. Winding through the desert dunes, fairways pass a number of lakes, desert areas, indigenous flora and the “Majlis” themselves (Arabic for meeting place). The layout isn’t long by Tour standards, but it is lengthy enough to play to the heavy-hitters. However, there are a number of water hazards and bunkers that come into play, as well as desert areas. That requires a mix of power and accuracy to successfully navigate the layout. The 463-yard ninth hole is one of the longest par-4s on the course and probably the most difficult hole. With water lining the left side of the fairway and an awkwardly shaped green, this one is a test for players.
