The GolfSixes was pretty cool and then there was the U.S. Open. This week the European Tour gets back into full swing with a decent field of players convening at the Golfclub Munchen Eichenried for the BMW International Open. For the second time this season Matt Wallace defends a title the week after competing in a major. He didn’t fare so well at the Made in Denmark last month and his title defense here takes place on a different layout than his one-shot victory last year. The BMW International has alternated between Cologne and Munich. Still, Wallace is the early betting favorite at +1000 with Matthew Fitzpatrick, Sergio Garcia and Martin Kaymer close behind on the odds board.

Odds Analysis
Matt Wallace +1000
He opened as the betting favorite, but with such long odds Wallace is a good pick. He is the defending champ, but his one-shot victory last year came on a different course. Wallace is making his debut at Golfclub Munchen Eichenried, but he was spectacular in carding a final round 65 in Cologne to claw his way to the top of the leaderboard after entering Sunday at T9. He snared a T12 at the U.S. Open last week and now knows what it takes to defend a title after battling the best in the world. Wallace was T2 at the British Masters and T3 at the PGA Championship in a nice run of form.
Martin Kaymer +1600
A shot off the lead at this event last year, Kaymer has hinted that his game is taking shape. He ranked first among the field in approach strokes gained last week at Pebble Beach, though it didn’t help him place further up the leaderboard than T35. One of a handful of German players in the field, Kaymer is making his 14th start in this event, but his performance at Golfclub Munchen Eichenried has been a mixed bag. He won the title here in 2008 and finished fourth in 2013. However, he’s failed to make the cut five times, including his last two visits.
Pablo Larrazabal +3500
If you’re looking for a course fit, the Spaniard is your guy. Larrazabal expressed his fondness for the course back in 2010 and grabbed a podium finish. He followed that with a win in 2011 and again in 2015 on this layout to become the fourth two-time winner at the event. He was swinging nicely with a T8 at the British Masters and T4 at the Made in Denmark then he retired in Belgium and hasn’t played since. The month of June has been a good one for him with three of his career wins coming in it.
Bernd Wiesberger +2800
A late add to the U.S. Open lineup Wiesberger made the cut but a third lap 78 did him in. Still not a bad effort considering. It’s been a long road back for the Austrian, who saw his 2018 season cut short by injury. Prior to his effort at Pebble Beach, Wiesberger was a winner in Denmark and a top-eight finisher at the Belgian Knockout. He has mastered this layout going 5 for 5 with a best finish of fourth in 2013.
Course: Golfclub Munchen Eichenried – 7,235 yards, Par 72
The original host of the BMW International Open, the layout will look much different than in previous years after a massive renovation that altered every green. The tree lined course stretches out to nearly 7,250 yards and is a combination of holes from the three courses on the property. The finishing stretch is challenging even to the best golfers. The par-4 16th hole is a risk/reward play with its green guarded by water on three sides. The par-3 17th awards a new BMW automobile to the first player with a hole-in-one. It’s been accomplished three times in the past with the last in 2010. A sharp dogleg on the par-5 18th can make or break a players round.
