Another new event is on tap for the European Tour when the gang heads down under for the ISPS Handa Vic Open in Victoria, Australia. The men will be joined by the women’s pros in a unique format that has both tournaments running concurrently on the Beach and Creek Courses of the 13th Beach Golf Links. Both fields will play each course over the first two days with a cut after 36 holes. The field moves to the Beach for the weekend where another cut will take place following round three. Local product Jason Scrivener came off as the betting favorite at BookMaker.eu, but his odds of +1200 suggest the field is wide open. Fellow countrymen Ryan Fox ( +1600 ) and Lucas Herbert ( +1800 ) are also atop the odds board.

Odds Analysis
Lucas Herbert +1800
There’s a lot to like about the local player who appears to be back in the swing of things in 2019. Herbert flashed his skill on the Euro Tour last season putting an impressive string together where he had two top-5s and a seventh-place showing in consecutive events. A second-round 63 at the Dubai Desert Classic propelled him to a T7 finish and No. 75 in the world rankings. He also plays well on his home turf with four top-7 showings in his last five starts in co-sanctioned events in Australia.
Jason Scrivener +1200
Recent form has Scrivener, another Aussie product, at the top of the odds board. However, he’s struggled here failing to break 74 in missing his first two cuts. There were better swings in 2015 when he had the 54-hole lead, only to finish T11. We have to look at both sides of the coin and his recent play laps the field. He finished T3 in Hong Kong, T6 at the Australian PGA Championship, T16 at Abu Dhabi and T7 at the Dubai Desert Classic. Oddsmakers don’t have a lot of faith in him at 12/1, but he’s playing like a champion and the field isn’t as deep as the other events.
Ashley Chesters +12500
This is a sneaky pick with a hefty payout. Chesters didn’t fare well on the desert swing and his confidence could be crushed. But we like him to respond in more favorable conditions. He’s worth watching when the course fits, and 13th Beach suits his game. Similar course form allows us to take a chance on him. He thrives in gusty, links-style layouts and grabbed a share of 12th here as an amateur. He has two top-20s in the Irish Open and the shorter layouts are to his liking, as a T14 in Hong Kong suggests.
Dimitrios Papadatos +3300
Recent form doesn’t wow the casual observer, but Papadatos is another local product who has played well in his homeland, and he owns the 13th Beach layout. He won the 2017 Victorian Open here and has a T6 in 2015 and T15 in 2014, so he definitely knows the track and the hazards that come with it. He was also runner-up at the Australian Open in November and placed among the top-20 at the Australian PGA Championship in December. The field is wide open and Papadatos has tamed 13th Beach in the past, giving a nice payday to any backer.
Courses: Beach and Creek Courses, 13th Beach Golf Links
The host Beach Course stretches to almost 6,800 yards at par-72 and it’s the shorter of the two layouts. Like its name states, the track is located on the beach and is regularly infested with the coastal winds that play havoc on people’s golf game. The Creek Course is a bit longer at 6,940 yards, but still short by Tour standards. It’s situated more inland and doesn’t get the gusts as often. That is the likely layout where players can make up scores, though the field only gets one crack at it. The short yardages suggest the courses are open to low scores. However, that hasn’t necessarily been the case over the last six years with a -16 winning twice. The 2014 Victoria Open was won by Matthew Griffin at 7-under.
