The European Tour spices up its format for the ISPS Handa World Super 6 in Perth, Australia this week. An innovative twist offers golfers and fans a unique experience with the combination of stroke play and match play. Lake Karrinyup Country Club will host 156 players for 36 holes of stroke play with 65 players and ties advancing to round three. Another cut after 54 holes will whittle the field to 24 players for a final day of six-hole match play. The top eight players after 54 holes will get a pass into the second round of match play and there will be playoffs to determine winners in the event of a tie. Thomas Pieters is the betting favorite at +1400, but as the longs odds tell us, the field is wide open for the third playing of this event.

Odds Analysis
Lucas Herbert +2000
He failed to adjust to the wind last week at the Vic Open and a third round 76 sent him home early. He was T9 at the halfway point and looked poised for a solid finish. He should be better at playing the wind and it will certainly play a role here, how Herbert adjusts will tell us a lot about his status. A third-place finish here last year propelled him to a strong season and a rise up the world rankings, going from 226th to 47th. “I love Lake Karrinyup and the fast-paced Super 6 format suits the way I like to play golf,” Herbert said. He’s reached the knockout stage in both years since the format change.
Thomas Pieters +1400
His Ryder Cup experience should serve Pieters well in the match play rounds, as long as he makes it that far, and given his recent form that’s not a sure thing. A rising star on the Tour a few years ago, Pieters has slipped in the world rankings and currently sits outside the top 50. He will be competing at this event for the first time and returns to Lake Karrinyup for the first time since missing the cut in 2014. Runner-up at Riviera, T5 in the Mexico Championship and a T4 in the Masters had Pieters on the fast track, but he’s failed to crack the top-10 since. There are better value picks on the board.
Marcus Fraser +6000
He has long odds and offers a great payday. In a field where no one truly stands out, it’s wise to look further down the odds board for a longshot pick. And Fraser offers plenty of value. He carded 26 birdies in the Vic Open last week and would have been knocking on a podium finish if not for struggles on the 18th at the host course. Still, T17 wasn’t a bad showing. And he has confidence heading to a track he’s had success playing. He’s 4 for 5 at Lake Karrinyup with all four of his made cuts resulting in top-20 finishes. He even scored better than Herbert in last year’s knockout round, but failed to advance.
Jason Scrivener +1500
He was the betting favorite at last week’s Vic Open and came away with a solid T5. And he’s been consistent with his game for some time. Last week’s ending was his fourth with a T7 or better in five starts. He has some history on the layout as well, giving him an edge over a number of competitors. He’s finished among the top-30 in all six visits and he found himself hanging among the top-10 at the end of at least one round each time. Maybe one day he can finish the deal.
Courses: Lake Karrinyup Country Club – 7,143 yards, Par 22
Not a particularly long course at 7,143 yards, Lake Karrinyup does play well to second shot players and is a fine short-form course. The big sticks aren’t necessary with only four par-5 holes and four par-4s measuring less than 400 yards. The undulating, tree-lined fairways offer some resistance, as do numerous bunkers guarding the greens. Accuracy off the tee and solid approach play are the name of the game at this layout. We saw wind play a part in the Vic Open last week and this course is also known for its gusts.
