European Tour Picks – Odds to Win Made in Denmark

Odds to Win Made in Denmark

The shifting of major dates on the PGA Tour has a ripple effect on the European Tour, and that’s evident this week with the Made in Denmark moving to the end of May from the usual August slot. The Euro circuit is back on track after breaking for last week’s PGA Championship and the Danish duo of Lucas Bjerregaard and Thorbjorn Olesen return to their homeland after taking part in the second major. Defending champion Matt Wallace is the betting favorite at +765 and was the only European to place among the top seven at Bethpage Black. After a year away, the tournament returns to its original venue of Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort in Farso.

Odds Analysis

Matt Wallace +765

When we go in search of a big payday, looking further down the odds list is always a way to get it. But it’s hard to look away from what Wallace has done and the payout isn’t that bad at his current odds. He was the top finisher among Euro circuit players at the PGA Championship with a T3 and is targeting the world’s top-10 with a run of solid form. He was runner-up at the British Masters a few weeks back and also grabbed a T6 at Bay Hill. A stunning late charge put him in position to win this event at Silkeborg last year, and he was T6 in his only start at Himmerland in 2017.

Soren Kjeldsen +5000

It’s been a bumpy ride for the Dane but a return to familiar surroundings has me leaning toward him at a nice price. Kjeldsen has competed in all five previous events and finished outside the top-15 once, that being a 23 in 2017. “It’s special for me because it’s sort of my area. For me it really is like coming home,” he said.

Erik Van Rooyen +1800

Making his debut at Himmerland could be a negative, but Van Rooyen’s recent form says he’s ready to tackle any layout. And this one isn’t nearly as difficult as Bethpage Black. EVR just completed his first top-10 at a major with a T8 at the PGA Championship, but it wasn’t a complete surprise. He’s a two-time runner-up on the Euro circuit and he now has four top-8s in his last seven starts worldwide.

Lee Westwood +3300

The odds for Westwood tumbled after his MC at the PGA Championship last week, but we’re betting he just needed a few rounds after playing sparingly this year. Starting for the first time in six weeks, he captured a T35 at the British Masters, continuing a stretch of below average play for him. Though it was at a different venue, Westwood probably feels like he should be the defending champion after blowing a chance to win at Silkeborg last year before bowing in a playoff.

Course: Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort – 6,851 yards, Par 71

Following a one-year hiatus, Made in Denmark returns to its roots for the sixth playing of the event. The first four were played here at Himmerland, a short par 71 that measures roughly 6,851 yards. Matt Wallace captured last year’s title at Silkeborg, prevailing in a four-man playoff. But this layout presents different challenges. It’s not long, but it does require a varied skill set to be successful. Distance off the tee will put players in a good spot for low scores. However, the par-4 18th was a tough nut to crack in 2017 playing as the hardest hole. The signature hole is the par-3 16th “Himmerland Hill” that features a green set in a bowl surrounded by steep banks. If follows scoring opportunities at 14 and 15 giving players a chance to make up some ground.
