The European Tour is off to Scotland this week with one final tune up before the Open Championship. An all-star field will gather at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick for the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open, the third Rolex Series event of the season. Headlining the field is Rory McIlroy, the highest ranked golfer in the field at No. 3 and the betting favorite at offshore sportsbooks. Rickie Fowler, Justin Thomas and Matt Kuchar are all ranked among the top-15 and are slotted at the top of the odds board. Defending champ Brandon Stone is further down the odds board to repeat.

Odds Analysis
Rory McIlroy +515
He is the prohibitive favorite and it’s hard to overlook what McIlroy has done as he gets ready for the Open Championship. I typically don’t lean towards favorites for obvious reasons, but like last week when Jon Rahm was a top pick, McIlroy has a lot going for him entering this event. He chose to play here instead of last week’s Irish Open, which had to be a difficult choice, so you know he’s going all in. He hasn’t teed it up since the U.S. Open, which came right after a win in Canada. McIlroy has been one of if not the most consistent golfer on any tour this season with 11 top-10s, so he has to be considered despite the low payout.
Matt Kuchar +1550
No stranger to the Scottish Open, Kuchar has used this event as a lead in to the Open Championship the last few years and he’s had solid results. He was runner-up in 2015 and fourth in 2017. He’s been strong this season with five top-10s in his last eight starts to go along with a pair of victories. He ranks highly in a number of stat categories proving he’s on top of his game. He missed the cut at Gullane last year, but that’s the exception and not the norm.
Rafael Cabrera Bello +2550
If he can overcome his meltdown from last week, RCB is a solid pick with a nice payout. He looked poised to win the Irish Open, setting the pace early in the final round before slipping to a T4. That followed a T3 at the BMW International, so we know he’s on top of his game. He’s a solid links player with a win at this event two years ago at Dundonald.
Eddie Pepperell +2775
A nice return from an injury was proof that Pepperell hasn’t lost a thing. He hadn’t played since missing the cut at the PGA Championship in May, but responded to the down time by claiming a T4 last week, which was his second top five in his last three starts. A strong links player, Pepperell has a second and a fourth at this event and was T6 in last year’s Open Championship at Carnoustie. The odds are favorable due to his time off, but he’s a risk worth exploring.
Bernd Wiesberger +4050
I’ve been praising Wiesberger for some time and it’s started to pay off. His return from a wrist injury was a matter of time for the talented Austrian and it continued with last week’s T2 at the Irish Open. He also has a win at the Made in Denmark and a T8 in his last five starts, so things are trending upward. Hasn’t had much success at the Scottish Open, but links play at the Alfred Dunhill proves he can translate his game.
Course: The Renaissance Club – 7,136 yards, Par 71
The Scottish Open gets a new venue this year, though there wasn’t much travel involved. Opened in 2008, The Renaissance Club is just a few miles from Gullane, where the 2018 tournament was held, and is another traditional links-style layout. There wasn’t much work done when the course was completed, carving the layout into the original landscape, which is typical of links golf in this part of the world. The length isn’t challenging, but there are obstacles for the players to contend with. The rough is up and trees are part of the landscape. And like with all links courses, wind can be a factor.
