The European Tour has some big names in this week’s event, as Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, Sergio Garcia and Tommy Fleetwodd are in the field for the HNA Open de France. One reason so many big names are playing is that this course at Le Golf National will be the site for the Ryder Cup in September. We are coming off a tough week with the matchups at the BMW International Open, so we’ll look to bounce back with a big week. Let’s look at the odds and picks for this week’s HNA Open de France.

HNA Open de France Matchup Picks
Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. Le Golf National is a par 71 that has a links feel, but it is not a true links course. It does have pot bunkers and some deep rough, but length off the tee isn’t a big factor. With trouble looming on many holes, scrambling will be a key stat to consider for this week’s matchups.
Jon Rahm -110 vs. Justin Thomas
I said in the odds preview that this may be the first time I have ever gone against Justin Thomas. He simply hasn’t played at the level he did earlier in the season. He almost never goes overseas to play and when he does the results have not been good. Rahm has plenty of experience in European Tour events and I expect him to contend for the win this week, so I will take him in this matchup against Thomas.
Alex Noren -150 vs. Sergio Garcia
Noren has played well in the past at Le Golf National including a tie for 8th in 2016 and a tie for 10th in 2017. Garcia has never played this course and until last week when he tied for 12th, his recent form had been poor. I will take Noren in this matchup.
Mikko Korhonen -115 vs. Alexander Levy
Korhonen has played well this season on the European Tour with a win and a second place finish. He is an excellent scrambler and he has played well on this course in the past. Levy is the best hope for France but he has really not played that well lately and he has never done anything in his home event, with only one top 50 finish. I will take Korhonen in this matchup.
Ryan Fox -120 vs. Nicolas Colsaerts
Fox played well in Italy and he made the cut at the U.S. Open. He played pretty well last year in this event with a couple of good rounds. Colsaerts is all about distance and this course simply doesn’t favor big hitters. I will take Fox in this matchup.
Haotong Li -140 vs. Paul Dunne
Li has played well this season, including a tie for 16th at the U.S. Open. He won the Dubai Desert Classic earlier this season. Dunne isn’t in great form of late with a missed cut and a 30th place finish. He played very poorly at Le Golf National two years ago but improved last year to a tie for 13th. I will lay the price and take Li in this matchup.
