The European Tour heads to Italy this week for the Italian Open with local favorite Francesco Molinari listed as one of the top betting choices. Molinari won last week’s BMW PGA Championship and he is getting a lot of attention this week, as he is listed as the co-favorite along with Alex Noren to win in Italy. We turned the corner nicely last week, as we went 4-1 with the matchups at the BMW PGA Championship. Let’s look at the odds and picks for this week’s Italian Open.

Italian Open Matchup Picks
Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. The Italian Open is going from the Gold Club Milano to the Gardagolf club in Brescia. The course has not been used on the European Tour since 2003 but many of the players are familiar with it. It is a tree lined course so accuracy off the tee will be very important, as will scrambling.
Alex Noren -105 vs. Francesco Molinari
This is simply a play against Molinari winning two weeks in a row. Noren is having an excellent season and I think he is the better player. I almost never take a play to win in back-to-back weeks, so I am going against Molinari here and taking Noren.
Alexander Bjork -115 vs. Alexander Levy
I think what Levy did earlier this year was a bit of an aberration and that he is now getting back to form, which is average. Bjork has played well in recent weeks and I think he is the clear choice in this matchup.
Jorge Campillo -105 vs. Andrew Johnston
I think the price on Campillo is very fair, as he is capable of winning this event. Beef has done nothing lately to show that he is ready to get in contention. I will take Campillo here.
Adrian Otaegui -115 vs. Matt Wallace
Otaegui is the higher ranked player and I expect him to bounce back from last week’s missed cut. You could almost see a letdown last week for him after he won in Belgium, but I expect he will be focused again this week. I will take Otaegui in this matchup.
Tommy Fleetwood -125 vs. Ian Poulter
Fleetwood is simply the better player than Poulter at this point in their careers. I know Poulter is having a good season, but Fleetwood is one of the top players on the European Tour. I expect him to contend for the win this week and I will take him in this matchup against Poulter.
Matteo Manassero +100 vs. Thomas Pieters
Manassero grew up playing on this course and it suits his game well, as distance is not a huge factor. This course really doesn’t suit Pieters, as he is not that accurate off the tee and his distance is negated. I think there is some value on Manassero this week and I will take him in this matchup.
