Odds Analysis
Thorbjorn Olesen +900
Olesen is probably assured of getting a spot on the Ryder Cup team, but a win in his home event would clinch it. He is in fine form with a win and four other top six finishes since June. He tied for fourth at the Nordea Masters in his last start.
Thomas Pieters +1400
Pieters has three top ten finishes in his last three starts so he is making a case for a Wild Card Ryder Cup pick. He should be able to dominate the par 5’s this week and that gives him a big chance.
Matthew Fitzpatrick +1600
Fitzpatrick really needs to win this event to have a chance to make the Ryder Cup. He won the Nordea Masters two years ago and he normally does well on shorter courses that demand accuracy. He should be a perfect fit for this week.
Eddie Pepperell +2200
Pepperell needs to win this event to have a chance at the Ryder Cup and he is in decent form with three top ten finishes in his last four starts. He has done well in this event in the past, but that was at Himmerland.
Matthew Southgate +3300
Southgate should appreciate the change in venue, as he didn’t do well at Himmerland. He should like Silkeborg and he comes in playing well with a tie for 10th two weeks ago.
Soren Kjeldsen +4000
You have to give Kjeldsen a chance, as he knows this course really well. He did miss the cut last week at the Czech Masters, but he should do well playing at home.
Lee Slattery +5000
One of my longshots this week is Slattery who comes in off a fourth place finish last week and a tie for 10th two weeks ago. He is playing really well right now and should not be listed at odds this high.
I also want to mention Thomas Bjorn who you may be able to find at odds of +35000. I never mention anyone who is listed at such longshot odds, but Bjorn considers this his home course and it is not like the field is overwhelming this week.
Course: Silkeborg Ry Golf Club is a short par 72 that measures just 6,975 yards. It is a course lined with trees and it features plenty of bunkers and water hazards. The course played host to a Nordic Golf League event and the winner had rounds of 66-69-69 in the three rounds.
