Thorborn Olesen is the favorite to win this week’s Nordea Masters on the European Tour. It is a huge week for Olesen, as he looks to qualify for Europe’s Ryder Cup team. He probably needs a top three finish either this week or at the end of the month in Denmark. I am coming off a 2-3 week with the matchups at the PGA Championship. Let’s look at the odds and matchups for this week’s Nordea Masters.

Nordea Masters Matchup Picks
Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. The Hills Golf Club is not one that most European Tour players are familiar with. It hasn’t hosted a regular European Tour event before, but it has hosted Challenge Tour events. The course is one where the fairways are pretty generous, so driving accuracy shouldn’t be of critical importance this week. Shots Gained: putting is the one stat to keep in mind this week.
Thorbjorn Olesen -175 vs. Alexander Bjork
I think Olesen is the clear choice in this matchup. He really wants a spot on the Ryder Cup team and a win in this tournament would clinch it. Bjork is up and down and I don’t trust him this week. I will lay the price and take Olesen in this matchup.
Lucas Bjerregaard -115 vs. Hideto Tanihara
I like this matchup with Bjerregaard going against Tanihara. Bjerregaard has made the cut all four times previously in this event including a tie for 20th two years ago. Tanihara did play well last time in the European Open but this will be his first start in Sweden. I will take Bjerregaard in this matchup.
Nicolas Colsaerts -120 vs. Richie Ramsay
This course doesn’t really demand accuracy so that should mean Colsaerts does well. He has been really good in the Nordea Masters in the last three years with an 8th, a 3rd and a 7th. He is wildly inconsistent, but this would seem to be a course he should do well on. I will lay the small price and take him against Ramsay.
Andrew Johnston -115 vs. Benjamin Hebert
This should be a good venue for ‘Beef,’ as he likes courses with a lot of trees. He tied for 12th in his last start at the Nordea Masters. He has not played since withdrawing from the Open de France almost two months ago. I will take him in this matchup against Hebert.
Matthew Southgate -115 vs. Hideto Tanihara
Southgate played well in France with a tie for 5th and he did well in the Scottish Open with a tie for 23rd. He is 54th in the Race to Dubai standings. I will go against Tanihara again and take Southgate in this matchup.
