Odds Analysis

Matthew Fitzpatrick +1100

Before you make a pick this week be sure to check out the European Ryder Cup picks. Fitzpatrick is in the mix to make the team, so we don’t know how he will react to making it or missing it. He has played well on this course before with a win, a second and a seventh.

Matt Wallace +2500

I rarely go with a player to win in back-to-back weeks, so Wallace is a go-against for me this week. He has also been awful previously after past wins with missed cuts.

Charl Schwartzel +2500

I don’t know what to make of Schwartzel this week, as he has not played here since 2010. He has a tie for 5th and a tie for 6th in his last two trips, but he is out of the FedExCup Playoffs and he may just have a letdown.

Lee Westwood +2500

Westwood had every chance to win the Made in Denmark, but failed. He won this tournament in 1999 and usually plays well, so it would not be a surprise to see him in contention again.

Thomas Pieters +2500

I don’t think this course suits Pieters, as he is a big hitter who is not that accurate. He will also be dealing with the fallout from the Ryder Cup picks. I am not backing Pieters this week.

Lucas Bjerregaard +2800

This could be a good spot to take Bjerregaard. He tied for 6th last week in Denmark and has he tied for 9th at the Czech Masters. He had a top ten at Crans last year and I think he can contend this week.

Andrea Pavan +4000

If you look at scrambling stats it is hard to ignore Pavan. He was first for scrambling at Nordea and he has been excellent on Par 3’s this season. I give Pavan a shot at nice odds.

Miguel Angel Jimenez +8000

The first of my two big longshots is Jimenez who won this event in 2010. He is still playing at a high level, as he won the Senior British Open in July. I think he is worth a flyer at big odds.

Scott Hend +8000

Hend has finished second in this event twice so we know he plays this course well. He has not played well in recent weeks, but I think his course form gives him a chance to win this week at longshot odds.

Course: Crans-su-Sierre Golf Club is one of the shortest courses on the European Tour at just 6,848 yards. The course has been used every year since 1972 and it actually plays even shorter than the listed distance because it is at altitude in the Alps. The course is lined with trees, so accuracy is very important. There are five par 3’s on the course and three par 5’s. Water hazards are in play on five of the holes.
