Open Championship Prop Picks
My favorite prop is actually on the hole in one. Carnoustie is simply a brutal course and all three of the par 3 holes are difficult. The first of the par 3’s is 187 yards with a lot of cross wind. A hole in one on this hole is extremely unlikely. The second par 3 is 175 yards with a 40 yard long green. If there is going to be a hole in one it would be on this hole, but again, it is very unlikely. The third par 3 is a brutal 248 yard monster with a difficult green. Forget about a hole in one on this hole. I think there is a ton of value on the NO at -115. I think you can make a strong case the number should be -200 or higher and even at that number I think it is worth a bet. At the current number of -115, the NO is a strong play.
I also think there is value on who will be the top American at the Open. Johnson is the favorite at +650 and Fowler is the second choice at +905. Both players head into the Open as top contenders. I think both are worth a play, as I think one of the two will finish as the top American and at 6-1 and 9-1 we make money.
I also wanted to mention the winning margin prop. I think there could be some value on the playoff and 1 stroke at +270 and +250 respectively. The last three times the Open was held at Carnoustie it went to a playoff. The course is very difficult and unless Johnson blitzes the field it is hard to see anyone running away with the win. If you believe that the event will be close then taking the one shot win is also worth a look. You could actually bet both props and be a winner as long as the winning margin is not two shots or more.
