The European Tour heads to Austria this week for the Shot Clock Masters, an event that will feature a 40-second shot clock. Players must hit their shot within 40 seconds or they will get a one-shot penalty. None of the world’s top players are in the field, so it is a wide-open event. We struggled last week with the matchups at the Italian Open, so we’ll look to bounce back with the matchups in Austria. Let’s look at the odds and picks for this week’s Shot Clock Masters.

Shot Clock Masters Matchup Picks
Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. There is a shot clock on this event, but everything else is pretty much the same. The event used to be called the Lyoness Open and it is still played at the Diamond Country Club. Most players won’t be affected by the shot clock, but it will be interesting to watch the action in the final round when the pressure is on. Players will get a one shot penalty for each time they don’t hit their shot within the allotted time. One interesting note is that each player in the field can call two time extensions during a round.
Miguel Angel Jimenez -125 vs. Lee Slattery
Jimenez is 54-years old but he is having a good season on the Champions Tour. The field is weak in Austria, this course is relatively short, and he should be able to compete. I think Slattery will have a letdown after last week, especially since he not only lost, but his caddie got hurt. I will take Jimenez in this matchup.
Mikko Korhonen -115 vs. Nicolas Colsaerts
The only thing Colsaerts can do is hit the ball long and this course isn’t one for big hitters. Korhonen has made all six previous cuts in this event with five top 25 finishes. I will take him in this matchup.
Ashun Wu -125 vs. David Horsey
Wu is very good on short courses and he won this event in 2016. He played well again last year with a tie for 10th. Horsey comes in playing poorly with just one top 20 finish on the yeare. I will take Wu in this matchup.
Sepp Straka -110 vs. Oscar Lengden
Straka has played really well on the Web.com Tour this season and the fields he faced there are not any worse than this field. Straka hits the ball straight and he should do well on this course. He finished seventh in this tournament last year. I will take him at the short price.
Lorenzo Gagli -145 vs. Lee Slattery
Gagli finished 10th in this event in 2013 and he comes in playing well with four top 20 finishes. He was third last week in driving accuracy which bodes well for this week. I will lay the price and take him in this matchup.
