Volvo China Open Matchup Picks

Before we get to the picks there are a few things to consider. This event has been played at Topwin for the past two years but this will be the first time the event is not part of a China swing, as the Shenzhen International was dropped from the schedule. That means players will be going straight from Morocco to China. Levy won last year’s event by shooting 17-under par. Haotong Li won this event by shooting 22-under par two years ago.

Haotong Li +115 vs. Alexander Levy

I said in the odds preview that I think Li should be listed as the favorite this week. I simply don’t like taking players to win in back-to-back weeks very often. Li has played well in this event in the past including a win two years ago and he was solid in defense last year with a tie for 11th. I give Li a decent chance to win this event so I definitely like him in this matchup at plus money.

Jeunghun Wang -115 vs. Hideto Tanihara

Wang played well last week in Morocco and he has played well in China in the past. Tanihara has played better of late, but I like the way Wang is going right now and we get him at a short price.

Julian Siri -115 vs. Shubhankar Sharma

I am going against Sharma in the next two matchups. Suri played well last November and finished second in Hong Kong. He is definitely capable of beating a European Tour field and he goes against a player in Sharma who has not played well of late. I will take Suri in this matchup.

Thorbjorn Olesen -115 vs. Shubhankar Sharma

Olesen has played well at Topwin in the past with a tie for 15th and a tie for 31st. He has three top 10 finishes in China in his career. I will lay the small price and take him in this matchup against Sharma.

Jorge Campillo -130 vs. Alexander Bjork

I liked Campillo last week and he didn’t play as well as expected, although most of that was due to a poor final round 76. He has played well on this course in the past including a tie for 9th last year. Bjork missed the cut in this event a year ago. I will lay the price and take Campillo.

Thomas Detry -115 vs. Ryan Fox

Detry was in the top five after two rounds in this event last year before falling to a tie for 48th. He has played well in China in the past including a tie for 10th at the Hong Kong Open last year. He has finished in a tie for 39th or better in six of his last seven starts. Fox missed the cut in this event a year ago and tied for 63rd two years ago. I will take Detry in this matchup.
