LIV Golf D.C. Odds

Fresh off his triumph at the PGA Championship, Brooks Koepka hit the board as the betting favorite for LIV Golf D.C., the seventh of 14 events on the season schedule. After going the first eight individual tournaments since the League started last year without a two-time winner, we’ve witnessed a player capture his second title three times in the last four tournaments. One of those times was when Talor Gooch had to get his first win before following with his second to become the first back-to-back winner. Koepka got the parade started last month in Orlando with Gooch winning in Australia and Singapore. Most recently Dustin Johnson broke out of a mini-slump with his second LIV title topping Cameron Smith and Branden Grace in a playoff. Both of DJs wins needed extra holes as he prevailed over Anirban Lahiri and Joaquin Niemann in Boston with an eagle on the first playoff hole. Odds Analysis

Bryson Dechambeau +1600

The situation sets up well for DeChambeau and he’s worth taking a look at. Trump National is long with few obstructions and wide fairways, in other words it’s a paradise for guys to smack the ball. And no one is better, at least for distance, than DeChambeau. His time with LIV hasn’t been memorable with no finish better than 10th in his first 11 starts. His game looks to have turned a corner, though, with a seventh in Tulsa followed by an impressive outing at Oak Hill where an opening 66 gave him the clubhouse lead. He earned a share of fourth at 3-under continuing a run of strong play.

Sergio Garcia +2500

Another power hitter licking his chops for the chance to play Trump National, Garcia enters on a run of solid form. He came close to a title in Singapore losing to Gooch in a playoff for his best showing in the League. The Spaniard also has extensive experience on links courses making him a worthy option for the outright. And at his price he’s worth dropping a few bucks on.

Dustin Johnson +1100

If Gooch can back to back we have to believe Johnson can do the same. DJ became the third two-time LIV winner with his triumph in Tulsa outlasting Smith and Grace with a clutch birdie on the first extra hole. DJ noted afterwards that he’d like to win one in regulation where there’s less stress. Well, he’s got a chance to become the first three-time winner.

Cameron Smith +800

I backed away from Koepka thinking the energy spent and emotional toll winning his fifth major would impact him this week. Instead I’m looking at second favorite Smith, who’s been carrying hot sticks for the last month. After a disappointing 29th in Orlando, the Aussie turned up the heat going 4-7-2 over his last three starts, falling in a playoff in Tulsa. He also closed with a 65 at Oak Hill to sneak into the top 10 giving him a boost of confidence heading to DC.

Harold Varner III +2200

Another big hitter looking to take advantage of what Trump National has to offer, Varner is slowly working his way to a victory. HV3 opened the season with a 28th in Mayakoba followed by 27, 19, 17, 9 and finally a LIV best finish of fourth last time out in Tulsa. He only has a spots remaining to continue the trend, one of them being first. And following a strong T29 at the PGA Championship, Varner is poised for a podium finish.

Course: Trump National Golf Club – 7,693 yards, par 72

Trump National got its wish with the arrival of LIV. The Championship Course was built specifically for world-class golf tournaments and hosted the Senior PGA Championship in 2017. The property opened in 2016 following a major renovation that eliminated most of the trees. The course now has a links feel to it, though water is a hazard on several holes. According to the Club website the course measures 7,693 yards with generous fairways. Despite its length and with favorable conditions expected, we could see low scores. Bernhard Langer won the Senior PGA at 18-under over 72 holes with seven players finishing double-digits under par. This is a great course for big hitters to shine so keep an eye on DeChambeau. The longest hitter in the sport is coming off a fourth-place showing at the PGA Championship and looks poised to join the short list of LIV titlists.
