The United States will be looking for a bit of revenge when they face Trinidad and Tobago in their second game of the 2019 Gold Cup on Saturday. The USMNT failed to make it to the World Cup last year for the first time since 1990, and a loss to Trinidad and Tobago in their last qualifying match cost them. Try as they might, they could only knock in one goal against the Soca Warriors and the 2-1 defeat led to a major shake-up in American soccer.

Odds Analysis
The Stars and Stripes got off to a great start at this year’s Gold Cup with a 4-0 win over Guyana in the opener. USMNT fans breathed a sigh of relief after the positive result given the country’s poor performance prior to the start of this competition, but there is still plenty of room for improvement. Guyana are ranked 177th in the world per FIFA, and they were outclassed from the start.
Paul Arriola opened the scoring for the US after a lovely feed from Weston McKennie. Tyler Boyd made it 2-0 shortly after halftime following a nice cross from Michael Bradley, and Gyasi Zardes took the score to 3-0 after a shot caromed off a defender and then off his face before entering the net. Boyd tallied another for the game’s final goal, but this wasn’t as dominant of a performance as you might think from the scoreline.
In their opener, Trinidad and Tobago looked to stall out the game against Panama. They had nearly half of the possession, but unlike their opponents they didn’t make any strong moves for goal. That strategy worked in the first half as neither team had many chances, but Panama broke through and scored twice in the second half for a 2-0 win.
The Soca Warriors failed to put a single shot on goal, and they only had the faintest of chances in this match. They might want to open things up more against the Americans.
Trinidad and Tobago Player to Watch
Kevin Molino is a familiar name to those that follow the MLS. Molino has played in the MLS for the last four seasons, and he is back in form again after tearing his ACL in the second game of the 2018 campaign. His 19 goals as part of the national team are double that of anyone else on the roster, and he is the main player the US will have to focus on.
United States Player to Watch
Paul Arriola has not received a lot of attention, but he was a difference maker for the USMNT on Tuesday night. Arriola was opening up Guyana’s defense with his aggressive runs, and the announcers were constantly lauding him for his performance. This team has needed someone that can create chances, and he has earned a second start against Trinidad and Tobago.

I’m still not sold on the USMNT. They are young and unpolished, and it looks like star midfielder Weston McKennie might miss this match after coming off with an injury against Guyana. The Americans already have some real problems in the middle of the field, and I believe Trinidad and Tobago will do a great job of stalling this game out. Take the underdogs on the goal line.
2019 Gold Cup Odds: United States 2, Trinidad and Tobago 1
