Saturday Premier League Picks

We only have a half-slate of Premier League games this week because of the FA Cup Quarterfinals, yet there is still some value on the board. With just two months left in the season, teams are out to finish strong to improve their place in the standings with some looking to qualify for the Champions League or avoid relegation. Others have looked much different since the winter transfer window, and that’s where the value lies.

West Ham United -178 vs. Huddersfield Town

I expected West Ham to be a -200 or higher favorite on Saturday. The Hammers are playing at home, where they are 7-3-5 on the season, and they have won three of their last four with the lone blip being a draw to Liverpool.

Huddersfield Town have one of the worst offenses we have seen in recent Premier League history. The Terriers have managed to score just 15 goals in 30 matches, and this team has nothing to play for now that they are essentially relegated.

This line is lower than it should be because the Hammers were stunned by Cardiff City last week, but they were dealing with a number of injuries and they have welcomed a few of those injured starters back into the lineup this week. West Ham should cruise to a comfortable win at home.

Over 2.5 in AFC Bournemouth vs Newcastle United

This line is a little low to me, but I understand why. Oddsmakers still don’t have faith in Newcastle United’s ability to score goals after having one of the worst attacks in the league for much of the year, but I believe in the Magpies. Although they are still averaging under a goal per game, they have tallied multiple goals in three of their last four and are looking more lively in the midfield as Ayoze Perez and Salomon Rondon have become more comfortable in their roles.

Bournemouth have been one of the most fun clubs to watch this season. There have been a total of 95 goals in Cherries games this year, and they are constantly trying to bag goals no matter who they are playing. Key injuries in their back line have forced them to play an even more gung-ho style than they did at the beginning of the year, and Bournemouth have some solid options in Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser, and Joshua King.

I think this game will be lively. Both sides will have good chances, and we won’t see too much holding football in a game that has a chance to double the total.

Liverpool -1.5 and -2 vs. Fulham

Yes, I know what you’re going to say. Don’t be a square. The squares have to win some of the time in order to keep playing though, and I’ll be joining them here.

Liverpool have had some struggles on the road recently. They have not looked impressive at all on the attack outside of Anfield, with just one goal in their last three league road games.

This is Fulham though. The Cottagers have the worst defense in the Premier League, and they are wont to give up even more goals in their final attempts to stave off relegation. Fulham must pick up wins in order to have a chance at surviving the drop, so they can’t be content to settle for a close loss or a draw against Liverpool and will not be as tight in the back.

The only thing I’m afraid of is Liverpool deciding to rest starters after their mid-week match against Bayern Munich, but with the chance to retake first place in their sights, I think they will go all out.
