2025 Australian Open Men’s Tennis Betting

For the first time in what seems like forever, Novak Djokovic is not the favorite to win the Australian Open men’s singles title. A sub-standard season in 2024, at least by his account, has left many wondering what the immediate future holds for one of the greatest players of all-time. Djokovic is back on the court aiming for a record 25th Grand Slam title, but he’s the third favorite on the odds board behind defending champion Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcarez.

It’s easy to see why Sinner is positioned as the favorite. He won in Melbourne last year and captured the US Open title among his eight singles victories. The success moved Sinner to No. 1 in the world rankings. Sinner beat Djokovic in the semifinals last year then had a remarkable comeback taking the final three sets to beat Daniil Medvedev in five. It was another frustrating finish for Medvedev, who lost a two-set lead to Rafael Nadal in the 2022 final and was swept by Djokovic in 2021. Medvedev is positioned as the fifth favorite right behind Alexander Zverev.

The 2025 Australian Open runs from January 12-25 at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Since 1987 it has been the first of four Grand Slam tournaments inside the professional tennis season. Visit BookMaker.eu for complete odds and to place your wager.

Father Time is undefeated and it looks like his latest victim is Djokovic. After ripping through the 2023 season, Joker hit a wall starting with a loss to Sinner in the AO semis. The rest of the season was just as bad. He didn’t win a Grand Slam and failed to win an ATP Tour level title of any kind for the first time since 2005. Djokovic admitted the challenge to stay motivated after accomplishing nearly everything in his career. The retirement of his greatest rival Nadal added to his lack of motivation. However, with 99 career singles wins and 24 Grand Slam titles, there are things still on the hook for him. And, you can’t discount his record at this event. Djokovic has won the AO a record 10 times.

Sinner will compete for the first time in 2025, but he closed last year on a heater. He won the ATP Finals in Italy with a straight set win over Taylor Fritz then helped the Italians win the Davis Cup with three straight-set wins. Sinner was 73-6 with eight titles in 2024 elevating him to No. 1 in the ATP rankings. His inclusion in the field will certainly draw attention to his off-court antics. Sinner had two failed drug tests but hasn’t faced suspension as the appeal process takes place.

While Sinner and Djokovic are hoarding the headlines, look out for Carlos Alcarez. The French Open and Wimbledon champ in 2024, the Spaniard also claimed an Olympic silver medal in what was a dynamite year. The No. 3 ranked player reached the quarterfinals last year before being bounced by Alexander Zverev, and is searching for his first AO title, which would make him the youngest player to win the career Grand Slam. Alcarez took some time off at the end of 2024 after a disappointing finish and should be well rested.

I can’t see anyone outside the top 5 favorites winning the first Grand Slam of the year, but stranger things have happened. Sinner and Alcarez each won two majors last year and Djokovic was the dominant player prior to that. In fact, those three have combined to win the last 10 Grand Slam events. Things will change, they always do, but my money is on one of the favorites.

He’s not the favorite and his stock dropped after last year, but Djokovic has plenty in the tank and renewed enthusiasm after teaming with former rival Andy Murray. And there are a few carrots at the end of the stick for him. Passing Margaret Court for the most career Grand Slam titles is one, and winning a 100th career singles title is another. That nice round number sounds so much better and past filled with success in this event is golden.
