Despite regularly winning the American League Most Valuable Player Award, the Los Angeles Angels have missed the playoffs in 11 of the past 12 seasons. Last year Shohei Ohtani burst onto the scene to win MVP honors for the Angels as 3-time MVP, and teammate Mike Trout played in only 36 games. It comes as no surprise that Ohtani and Trout are the co-favorites to win the 2022 AL MVP Award. Nor, for that matter, is it surprising to see Vlad Guerrero on top of the board as well. Guerrero is the reigning home run king on a Toronto team picked for big things in 2022.
2022 American League Most Valuable Player Award Odds: Shohei Ohtani (Angels) +300, Mike Trout (Angels) +350, Vlad Guerrero (Blue Jays) +400, Aaron Judge (Yankees) +1500, Wander Franco (Rays) +1800, Jose Ramirez (Indians) +2000, Rafael Devers (Red Sox) +2000, Corey Seager (Rangers) +2200, Yordan Alvarez (Astros) +2200, Brandon Lowe (Rays) +2500, Jose Altuve (Astros) +2800, All Other Players +3000 or Higher.

Odds Analysis
Miguel Cabrera was the last repeat winner of the American League Most Valuable Player Award in 2013. Frank Thomas achieved two consecutive AL MVPs for the Chicago White Sox in 1993-94. Only Cabrera and Thomas have pulled off this achievement in the divisional era that began in 1969.
Shohei Ohtani +300
Last year Shohei Ohtani scored 103 runs with 26 doubles, 46 home runs, 100 runs batted with a .592 slugging percentage, and .964 OPS. Previously Ohtani was best known as the 2018 AL Rookie of the Year. Ohtani was 9-2 with a 3.18 ERA and 1.09 WHIP on the mound. He struck out 156 batters in 130.1 innings of work. Ohtani is on the cusp of becoming the biggest thing in baseball with his combination of hitting and pitching prowess.
Mike Trout +350
Mike Trout is a 9-time All-Star and 3-time American League Most Valuable Player (2104, 2016, 2019). Trout is an 8-time Silver Slugger awardee and 2-time AL Hank Aaron Award winner. Trout is coming off a shortened season due to a torn calf muscle. Still, Trout managed to hit .333 with a .624 slugging percentage and 1.090 OPS in 2021. In 36 games, he produced 23 runs, eight doubles, eight home runs, and 18 runs batted in.
Vlad Guerrero Jr +400
Vlad Guerrero Jr is all future, not to mention a 2021 AL All-Star. The son of the great Vlad Guerrero, Jr was named 2021 All-MLB First Team and won the Hank Aaron and Silver Slugger awards.
In 2021 Guerrero produced 123 runs, 29 doubles, 48 home runs, 111 runs batted in, and hit .311 with a .601 slugging percentage and 1.002 OPS. It was a career season for the 4th year Big Leaguer. Thanks to Guerrero's presence, Toronto is among the favorites for the American League pennant.
Aaron Judge +1500
There is a big drop in price from Ohtani, Trout, and Guerrero to Aaron Judge of the Yankees. Yet Judge is a bona fide candidate. Aaron Judge missed huge chunks of playing time from 2018-2020 before playing in 148 games last season, the second-most of his career. Judge produced 89 runs, 24 doubles, 39 home runs, 98 runs batted in, with a .287 average, .544 slugging percentage, and a .917 OPS. Judge was an AL All-Star for the third time in his career. Additionally, he won the Silver Slugger Award for the second time in his career.
2022 AL MVP Award Winner Best Bet
In this situation, Aaron Judge combines ability, a contending big market team, and a great price. Last year was a great indicator of what Judge can do over a full season.
