The next to last Saturday of regular season play on the 2024 MLB schedule has a number of matchups that will affect the playoff races in both leagues that we can also use to build a winning MLB parlay. The number of teams vying for a postseason spot has dwindled but tight races for wild card positioning will leave one club in each league out of the picture. The San Diego Padres have the top wild card in the NL ahead of Arizona and can still catch the Dodgers for the NL West title. Before facing those clubs in the final week of the season, the Pads can bolster their odds against the lowly White Sox. And look out for the Detroit Tigers in the AL wild card race. With Baltimore, Kansas City and Minnesota scuffling, the Tigers are primed to jump ahead of one or more of those clubs. They finished off a three-game sweep of KC on Wednesday winning for the ninth time in 11 games and face the O’s in a key matchup on Sept. 21.

There are two more chances to make some coin on Saturday MLB parlays. It’s been a while since I last hit a three-teamer, but thankfully I have a few more chances to make up for it. I lost two of three wagers last week backing the Yankees in a 7-1 loss. Timing is everything and I picked the wrong time. The Bombers won three straight ahead of that setback and they won three in a row after. Houston saved me from a complete disaster covering the spread in a 5-3 win over the Angels.
The roles might be reversed when Saturday rolls around, but right now the Tigers are hot and the Orioles are not. An unexpected surge has Detroit on the verge of a playoff spot and the club has nothing to lose. Meanwhile, the O’s are feeling the heat with losses in eight of 10 games after Wednesday’s 5-3 setback to the Giants. The AL East title is becoming an illusion and they’re desperately trying to hold on. The Tigers are feeling invincible following a sweep of KC making them a worthwhile MLB parlay pick.
Philly has been the Mets kryptonite this season winning six of the first nine meetings, including two of three last week. There is pressure on the Mets to win and snare a wild card, but they haven’t had success against the NL East leader. The Phils won’t back down since they’re trying for a top two seed and first round bye and their offense has been crushing it all year.
With a banged up rotation the Dodgers have to win with offense, and they haven’t had a hard time scoring against the Rockies averaging close to six runs while going 5-2 in the first seven meetings. Making this pick more of a bonus is Yoshinobu Yamamoto being LA’s projected starter and he’s been flashy since returning to the bump not allowing an earned run in two starts.

Sorry White Sox but I’m doing it again. Yep, the worst team in (maybe) MLB history has been good to bet against and with San Diego looking to lock down the top wild card or possibly the NL West, this is a game they can’t let slip away. The Pads have been the best in baseball since the All-Star break with a relentless offense and strong pitching. I have to back SD on the runline since there isn’t much value on them straight up, and with the Sox expected to send their ace Garrett Crochet to the hill the UNDER also looks good.
