Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees MLB Betting

Red Sox at Yankees MLB Lines

If the New York Yankees hold a series lead over the Boston Red Sox heading into Sunday night’s series finale, you can bet your bottom dollar linemakers will have the home team installed inflated favorites to come out triumphant with Gerrit Cole likely to take the bump. Though it hasn’t been confirmed New York’s staff ace will get the start at the time of this writing, it only makes perfect sense for Aaron Boone to give his Cy Young arm as much rest as needed after tossing a gem last time out in Houston. An outing that resulted in a 1-0 Yankees triumph after Cole threw 129 pitches to log the complete game shutout. It’s already been announced that Nick Pivetta will throw in the finale, and that looks to be a good thing for Yankees’ backers considering the right-hander has given up handfuls of earned runs in a majority of his most recent starts. I hate to say it being a dog bettor primarily, but it looks like laying the chalk is the way to go Sunday night!

First pitch for this AL East scuffle between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees is scheduled for Sunday, July 18, 2021, at 7 p.m. ET from Yankee Stadium. This week’s Sunday Night Baseball telecast will air live on ESPN. Bet on MLB odds and player props at BookMaker.eu every day of the season.

Odds Analysis

The Yankees came out of the break owners of a 46-43 overall record that finds them in fourth place within the ultra-competitive AL East. At three-games over the breakeven point, New York must find a way to start stockpiling wins in its own house. A 23-22 record simply won’t get the job done with the amount of playoff caliber teams littered throughout the division. Boston went into the break as the third most lucrative bet in the game having put a cool $1500+ worth of baseball betting profit in their supporter’s pockets by way of playing .600 ball. Most impressive is the fact that it’s been just as dominant on the road (27-17, $1120) as it’s been at home (28-19, $404). Surprisingly these offensive-rich rosters have combined for a 93-81 record to the under.

Probable Pitchers

Nick Pivetta (R): Through June 7, the right-hander looked to be in the midst of his breakout campaign having allowed two or less earned runs in all but four of his 12 made starts. The four that didn’t qualify saw him surrender a total of 14 ER through 22 innings of work; still not terrible! However, his last six starts as a whole have been horrendous to say the least with the righty conceding 27 hits (9 HR) and 19 ER over 32 innings pitched. Because of it, he’s now the owner of a 4.30 ERA with a 4.17 FIP. While his 10.6 K/9 is rock-solid, it’s down to 9.0 over his last two starts. On top of that, his BB/9 is up to 4.5 during that stretch. Pivetta’s only logged two thrown innings against the Yankees lifetime and allowed two hits (1 HR) and 2 ER with 2 K. Gary Sanchez and Giancarlo Stanton each took him deep.

To Be Determined (R): While it hasn’t been confirmed as gospel that Gerrit Cole makes this start, I can’t help but think he gets the nod regardless. Most of the fantasy baseball sites I visit suggest as such as well. With that, look for No. 45 to take to the bump for the 19th time looking to improve upon a 9-4 record that’s seen him throw to a 2.68 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and .203 batting average against while racking up an insane 147:22 K/BB ratio over 114 total innings of work. While things got hairy there for a moment with the crackdown on the sticky stuff, Cole was nothing if not brilliant in his final start before the break in Houston where he only allowed three hits and no earned runs over nine complete innings to lead New York to the series win over the Astros. He’ll undoubtedly be out for blood in this rematch against the Red Sox after Boston tattooed him for eight hits (3 HR) and 5 ER through five innings back on June 27.

Red Sox vs. Yankees Prediction

Cashing a ticket on the Yankees in Cole’s most recent start was one of the more thrilling wins I’ve had all season. That’s one I’ll be talking about to the grandchildren down the road! As much as I respect what the Red Sox have done to this point of the season, I can’t say I’m 100 percent sold on Alex Cora’s squad being one of the favorites to hoist the Commissioner’s Trophy come the end of the season like their currently being advertised as such on the MLB futures odds. At some point, New York’s offense is going to catch fire. There’s simply just too much firepower within it to continue being the middling unit it’s been through the middle of July. Pivetta’s been struggling of late, so this looks to be a perfect spot for a Yankees eruption. With that, I’ll hit New York on the -1 run-line to reduce the cost and also target Cole’s K prop as I expect him to log a gaudy total against an offense that embarrassed him the last time he opposed it.
