Two of the best teams in baseball go at it again on Tuesday when the Houston Astros visit the New York Mets for an interleague tilt. The clubs met just last week in Houston in a possible World Series preview. The Astros swept the two-game series handing the Metropolitans their first losing streak in almost a month. Prior to this season the clubs last met in 2017, they’ll conclude their season series with four games in a week. I guess you could call it a scheduling quirk, but it’s good for the game with two of the best.
First pitch for this interleague matchup between the Houston Astros and New York Mets is set for 7:10 p.m. ET on Tuesday, June 28, 2022. The game will air live on TBS from Citi Field. BookMaker.eu will have betting options for every game of the MLB season.

Odds Analysis
The teams are trending in different directions offensively, which was evident in their two games in Houston. After a slow start at the dish the Astros have picked things up led by Yordan Alvarez. A pair of home runs in the second game gave Alvarez three in the set and 21 for the year with Houston outscoring New York 13-5. Alvarez became the fourth player in MLB to reach the 20-home run mark along with New York’s Pete Alonzo.
In 18 games during the month of June the Astros averaged 5.17 runs upping their season number to 4.32 while going 10-6-2 against the OVER. Hitting is contagious and Alvarez is the virus. He might be the most feared hitter in baseball right now after the numbers he’s put up this month, and we’re not finished. He’s hit safely in 13 of 17 games with five three-hit games and nine multi-hit efforts. During that span his slash line is .443/.521/.885 with a league leading 23 RBIs.
The Mets likely catch a break in the series opener with Houston completing a four-game weekend set with the Yankees in a battle between the two best teams in the AL. Both teams have Monday off, but the Astros could be emotionally drained. And their pitching staff will likely get extensive use allowing the Mets to get going offensively. New York’s average runs per game fell over a full run from May to June causing some concern. And the heater the Braves are on finished it off. The Mets scored 5.8 runs per game in May and watched that fall to 4.5 runs in June.
Overall the Mets are one of the top offensive teams averaging just under five runs while hitting .261. Even a slight dip in those areas shouldn’t affect them too much, especially when the rotation gets in order. Max Scherzer is finishing up a rehab assignment and should join the club soon while Jacob deGrom is not expected back until the middle of next month. But he’s expected to return solidifying a rotation that’s been strong in the absence of its aces.
Probable Pitchers
Both expected starters pitched in the recent series, though not against each other. In his first ever appearance against the Mets, Luis Garcia (5-5, 3.68 ERA) earned a win giving up six hits and three earned with five strikeouts in five innings. Though he won his last two starts there has to be some concern over Garcia’s performance. In those games he allowed 16 hits and 10 runs across 15.1 innings yielding four home runs for a 5.87 ERA.
Garcia kept the Mets in the yard last time out, not allowing a home run for the first time in four starts. The long ball has been a bugaboo for him, though, with 12 surrendered in 71.0 innings. I guess it’s no coincidence that the Astros are 5-0 in starts Garcia doesn’t give up a homer. And his numbers are better on the road with his 2.37 ERA nearly two and a half runs lower.
With Scherzer and Tylor Megill on the shelf, the Mets inserted Trevor Williams (1-4, 3.86 ERA) into the rotation and his spot in the order is up Tuesday. That’s not a guarantee he’ll start, though, after getting roughed up by the Astros last week. Williams surrendered three earned on four hits, including a pair of homers, over four innings in the 8-2 loss.
Astros at Mets MLB Odds Pick
After spending a week in New York the Astros will be looking forward to getting out of town. They’d like to do it with a few more wins, though. Unless the Mets shuffle their rotation they’ll have their fifth starter on the hill and with Houston dialed in offensively it could be a mess for the Mets.
MLB Odds Prediction: Houston Astros / OVER
