New York baseball fans are enjoying a terrific summer with the hopes of a more meaningful Subway Series on the horizon. Just a few weeks after sweeping their city rival the New York Mets head across town to finish up a brief two-game series on Tuesday with the New York Yankees. The teams lead their respective divisions, but the Yankees have looked vulnerable since the All-Star break. In the first half they were on pace to break the record for wins in a season, now they have fewer victories than the Mets. They still hold a comfortable lead in the AL East, but things could get interesting.
First pitch for the Subway Series battle between the New York Mets and New York Yankees is set for 7:05 p.m. ET on Tuesday, August 23, 2022. The game will air live on TBS from Yankee Stadium. BookMaker.eu will have betting options for every game of the MLB season.

Odds Analysis
While the Mets waited for Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom to get healthy and return to the rotation, Taijuan Walker and Carlos Carrasco were helping to keep the club in first place. So I guess they wouldn’t be the Mets if there wasn’t some adversity. Carrasco and Walker came up lame in consecutive starts in Atlanta in what is another setback for the rotation. And arms will get a workout over the weekend with four games against the Phillies in three days before this series.
Ranked among the top-5 in runs per game and team ERA, the Mets won 75 of their first 117 games to remain within striking distance of the Dodgers for the best record in the NL. But instead of looking ahead they better look behind with the Braves making a charge. They’ve held together with contributions from a lot of people and once again they’ll face some adverse conditions due to injuries. The offense has allowed the Mets to record the highest OVER percentage in MLB at 53.7, and despite their lofty winning percentage they are only 7-8 in interleague play.
Not that long ago we were talking about the Yankees possibly setting a MLB record. Well, no longer following a major downturn since the All-Star pause. They dropped a doubleheader to the Astros out of the break and things haven’t gotten better with losses in 17 of their first 25 post-break games. They are no longer the best home team either with consecutive losses to Tampa Bay extending their overall home skid to four.
The offense has dried up too with Giancarlo Stanton and Matt Carpenter on the IL and D.J. LeMahieu missing games. They were shutout in consecutive games by Boston and Tampa and were blanked four times in a 10-game stretch from Aug. 6 to Aug. 16. They cashed the UNDER in a fifth straight game with a 3-1 loss to the Rays and despite winning 72 of their first 117 games they are $153 in the red on the moneyline.
Probable Pitchers
Recent injuries and a heavy schedule will likely force some adjustments to the Mets rotation. As it stands now, though, Jacob deGrom is in line to start giving the Mets a great chance at victory. The former two-time Cy Young Award winner has been money since joining the rotation giving up just six hits and a walk in 16.2 innings for a 0.42 WHIP over his first three starts. That’s not a typo. He hasn’t faced the Yankees since 2018 with pedestrian numbers in six lifetime starts against them. He’s 2-4 with a 3.51 ERA and 1.10 WHIP across 41 innings. Since the 2020 campaign deGrom has won 76.5 percent of his decisions with the Mets going 21-9 in his 30 starts.
The Yankees basically swapped starters at the deadline trading Jordan Montgomery and acquiring Frankie Montas. So far that hasn’t worked out very well. In his Yankees debut Montas was touched for five hits and six runs with three walks over three innings taking a ND in 12-9 setback. He was better last time out giving up five hits and two runs in five innings, but the Yanks lost again 3-2. The righty had respectable numbers in 19 starts with Oakland posting a 3.18 ERA and 1.14 WHIP over 104.2 innings for a bad team, so there’s a good chance his numbers improve.
Mets at Yankees MLB Odds Pick
If the pitching matchup holds up the Mets have an advantage. I think their offense can also get to Montas and a now fragile Yankees bullpen. He hasn’t had much success against the Yankees, but he hasn’t faced them since becoming the deGrominator either, so backing the visitors is a smart move. And I can see the Yankees busting out of an offensive slumber to help cash the OVER.
