As it stands right now, the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals are in the playoff mix. By way of coming back to defeat the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night, the Brew Crew took hold of the eighth and final seed from the San Francisco Giants. The Redbirds also improved their playoff stock by shutting the Kansas City Royals out to even the series. Each team will have one game left to play in those respective series before entering the most pivotal series of the season with the teams set to battle one another five times at online sportsbooks through the weekend. Saturday’s FOX Game of the Night should be a doozy with staff ace Brandon Woodruff set to square off against Adam Wainwright for the second time this season. Waino led the Cardinals to the 4-2 triumph a few weeks back.
First pitch for the game between the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2020, at 7:07 p.m. ET from Busch Stadium. The matchup will be aired live on FOX. You can bet on MLB Odds at BookMaker.eu every day of the season.
Odds Analysis
The Brewers bounced back nicely from Monday night’s series opening loss against Cincinnati by storming back late to defeat the Reds by a 3-2 count as +138 underdogs per the closing MLB odds. In doing so, Craig Counsell’s squad moved to a game under .500 as a visitor -$52 and evened their overall record up at 27 games apiece -$339. The win was the team’s fifth in the last six tries which lets MLB bettors know Milwaukee is currently playing with a passion that mustn’t be ignored.
No team in the league has been forced to deal with more COVID-19 issues than that of the Cardinals. Seriously, this team has had maybe two days off over the last 40 due to the coronavirus delaying their season at the outset. A tip of the cap must go in the direction of Mike Shildt and his staff for putting the team in the position it’s currently in. St. Louis is running hot as well right now having logged wins in five of its last six to move to two games over .500 for the season -$3.
Probable Pitchers
Brandon Woodruff: The Brew Crew’s staff ace took the loss in the opener against the Reds after tossing 5.2 innings of 2 ER ball while registering 9 K and issuing two free passes. Cincy forced him to elevate his pitch count with it taking him 100 pitches to get to that point. Unfortunately, it put an end to his successive seven inning outing streak logged in his previous two turns against the Cardinals and Cubs; both played to low scorers. The righty checks in 2-1 with a 3.60 ERA and 20:3 K/BB ratio versus St. Louis in his career.
Adam Wainwright: The veteran right-hander continues to get the job done for the Redbirds every fifth day. He’s 5-2 with a 3.05 ERA and miniscule .212 BAA for the season, and St. Louis has come out on the right side of the scoreboard in six of his nine made starts. He just defeated Woodruff a few weeks back after tossing seven innings of 2 ER ball at the Brewers while tying his season-high of strikeouts with nine. That said, things could be unraveling for him after conceding 18 hits and 8 ER over his last 18.2 innings of work.
MLB Pick
Woodruff has been a tough-luck loser each of the last two times he took to the starting bump. He was outdueled by Waino even though he only allowed the Cardinals to get to him for seven hits and 3 ER through seven innings, and then served up a bothersome 2-run homer to the Reds that ruined his outing after only giving up four hits while striking out nine through 5.2 innings. Even though both offenses recently saw both of these pitchers, I’m thinking runs will be tough to come by over the course of this series with so much on the line. While Wainwright has struggled a bit lately, I fully expect him to rise to the occasion in this one; same goes for Woodruff. With that, I’ll be looking to bet the under for the full game as well as the first five innings on Saturday night.
MLB Odds: Cardinals 3, Brewers 2
