For the third consecutive year the Arizona Diamondbacks enjoyed a winning season with a final 2019 record of 85-77. And much to the delight of gamblers, Arizona also posted a nice profit on the MLB board. Arizona has finished in second place to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West for the past three seasons. Overall, Arizona’s strength has also been its weakness. They are well balanced but have not done any one thing particularly well. This year the Diamondbacks are expected to have a solid pitching staff that may be underestimated at the start of the 2020 campaign.

2020 Arizona Diamondbacks Win Total Odds at Bookmaker.eu: 83.5, over -130, even
Playing in the National League West Division the Diamondbacks will be outgunned only against the LA Dodgers. The Colorado Rockies, San Francisco Giants, and San Diego Padres are all teams the D-Backs should carry advantages against. This helps in their quest for a wild card spot and to surpass 83.5 wins on the 2020 season.
Manager Torey Lovullo
The assets working in Arizona’s favor begin with manager Torey Lovullo, who set the winning tone in his first season with the D-Backs in 2017 when he led them to a 24-win increase from the 2016 season and put them into the wild card playoff game. For his efforts he was named NL Manager of the Year.
On the Hill
For 2019 Arizona ranked 12th for staff earned run average, 10th for quality starts and 12th for bullpen.
Number one starter Madison Bumgarner arrives as a refugee from the rebuilding San Francisco Giants, where he was a four-time All-Star, three-time World Series champion, and 2014 World Series Most Valuable Player. Last year on a bad Giants team Bumgarner finished 9-9 with a 3.90 earned run average and WHIP of 1.13.
Robbie Ray is the projected number two starter and is coming off a solid 2019 season in which he went 12-8 with a 4.34 earned run average and WHIP of 1.34. Ray is a 2019 NL All-Star.
One starter in the rotation to keep an eye on is Luke Weaver, who posted a 2.94 earned run average and WHIP of 1.07 last year in just 64.1 innings of work.
Closer Archie Bradley was 4-5 with a 3.52 earned run average and 18 saves last season. Bradley struck out 87 batters in just 71.2 innings of work.
At the Plate
Arizona ranked 11th in Major League Baseball for runs scored in 2019 with an OPS of 13th and a mark of 19th for home runs.
First baseman Christian Walker is coming off an encouraging 2019 campaign that was his first full season in the Big Leagues. Walker scored 86 runs with 26 doubles, 29 home runs, and 72 runs batted in with an OPS of .825. He is considered to have plenty of upside.
Center fielder Starling Marte arrives from Pittsburgh where he was a NL All-Star and Gold Glove winner. Marte hit .295 with 97 runs, 82 runs batted in, 31 doubles and 23 home runs for 2019.
Third baseman Eduardo Escobar had a strong 2019 season for Arizona. Escobar produced 94 runs, 29 doubles, 35 homes runs, 118 runs batted in, a slugging percentage of .511 and OPS of .831.
2020 Arizona Diamondbacks Win Total MLB Betting Odds Pick
Tony Lovullo’s Diamondbacks have potential for improvement and a solid base to build off of. Arizona is the next best in the West to the Dodgers and could surprise should LA flounder. The Diamondbacks have enough material and intangibles to clear the win total.
